As a concept, BYOD has come a long way in a short time. What began with the careful integration of enterprise email, calendar, and mobile contacts onto employee devices now has the potential to become something much more valuable to employers: a working mobile office with connection to databases that, in the past, would have only been available at a desk in the office.
