CIOs today face the challenge to create a highly reliable, flexible, scalable and cost-effective digital infrastructure to be able to deal with the needs of today's consumers. With mass cloud adoption and big data analytics taking centre stage, companies are compelled to have large data warehouses and the ability to analyze vast quantities of information in place. As a consequence, the global spend on data centre infrastructure has been growing consistently over the past few years. With developing economies and a large user base in place, Asia-Pacific is at the forefront of this push to build resilient infrastructure to run businesses. According to a research by Canalys the market for infrastructure products including servers, storage, networking, security, and virtualization is expected to grow at 5 percent per year and reach $152 billion by 2016. Accounting for a quarter of worldwide datacenter infrastructure expenditure by 2016 Asia Pacific will see the fastest growth in this sector. In the years to come the focus will shift towards sustainability. As data centres are consumed about 40 percent of the world's energy, the sector is facing an emerging energy crisis. As companies and governments in Asia Pacific make the shift towards green data centres, the trend is only going to grow in the years to come. Companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, Apple and Google are spending billions to build green data centers.Apart from the move towards green datacenters, the industry is also seeing the growth of interconnected data centres in the region. With IoT taking centre stage and millions of new smartphones and devices hooking up to the Internet every month, this trend towards server to server traffic can only accelerate.Although global vendors are focusing on expanding their channel coverage in key Asia-Pacific markets in order to capitalize on these growth opportunities, it is the local vendors who have taken the front seat.Do let us know your thoughts.Rachi V SharmaManaging Editoreditor@apacciooutlook.comChange is the only constant in the Data Centre Market
