August 20196 At present, there are enormous technological advancements as the world is becoming increasingly digitalized. The year 2019 too marks an exponential and unprecedented transformation in technology affecting the manner in which organizations develop, validate, deliver, and operate their software. As a result, organizations must consistently innovate themselves to optimize practices and tools to develop and deliver high-quality software quickly. Accounting for roughly 30 percent of total project effort, software testing is an essential focus for achieving `quality at speed' amid the increasing complexity of systems, environments, and data.Organizations have embraced agile and DevOps as a response to rapidly changing requirements and the demand for speed. These practices have gained much interest over the past five years and continue to intensify for the foreseeable future. In order to implement DevOps and agile effectively, organizations need to include test automation as an essential element of their software development process. Applying artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to address the challenges in software testing is not a new concept, but only recently have there been practical applications of these up and coming technologies. AI and ML will influence software testing by allowing more automation, augmenting the capabilities of human testers to meet aggressive quality and timeline demands. This year continuous testing is poised to go mainstream alongside increasing levels of test automation. Once organizations adopt continuous testing, they will be in a much better position to control business risk coverage for today's complex applications. This is because testing teams will be able to provide feedback on risks quickly and regularly, without creating bottlenecks. The coverage supplied by continuous testing will have an enormous impact on the end quality software. There is already evidence of testing playing an outsized role in the software delivery process as it becomes a cross-functional priority. Organizations and individuals need to remain aware of the developments in the industry. Keeping up with these trends would give test professionals, organizations, and teams the opportunity to stay ahead of the curve. With several advanced solutions in the market that can streamline software testing, APAC CIO Outlook showcases the best among those in its special edition on software testing, featuring innovative solutions and valuable insights from industry thought leaders.
