June 20186 The state of the manufacturing industry today is at a crossroads--the industry has the ability to change the way technology is being implemented currently. With the advanced techniques that the manufacturing industry has begun to employ, such as 3D printing, automation--robotics, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI); it opens up a whole new avenue for manufacturers to automate entire processes. Automating the process will negate the need for humans for basic tasks such as programming and monitoring of processes. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has now firmly moved into the manufacturing industry. This opens the door for manufacturers to place devices on the factory floor, such as machine vision devices and RFID sensors to help mitigate the number of errors that take place during the manufacturing process. These, combined will enable manufacturers to get a better understanding of the performance of the factory floor; in many cases giving them the opportunity to pre-emptively prevent mistakes from taking place.Furthermore, the incorporation of augmented reality and virtual reality technology (AR/VR) on in this sector will enable the user to inspect worksites and manufactured products in real-time without needing to leave their seat. This will be a huge boost in terms of time management as manufacturing industries are always pressed for time. Moreover, with trends such as lean manufacturing gaining traction over the last few years, it is understood that the manufacturing industry is steadfast and on track to achieve 5.0 status in the near future. We at the APAC CIO Outlook Editorial Board have come up with the solution providers who show the most promise with our "Top 25 Manufacturing Technology Solution Providers - 2018" list.
