November, 20216 To say the aviation industry has gone through significant changes over the past few years is an understatement. Engines and aircraft have become lighter, quieter, and more efficient. The implementation of new-age technologies such as big data, AI, biometrics, virtual reality, and IoT is reshaping the industry and pushing it to newer heights. AI, for example, is not only being used to collect flight data for optimizing route and weather forecasting but also to create virtual assistants for customer queries, enhanced logistics operation, facial recognition systems replacing biometrics for security checks, and self-service kiosks equipped with augmented reality. However, some airlines are looking beyond chatbots to leverage the true potential of AI to fasten inspections, optimize the inventory for parts, and enhance the operational efficiency. To that end, we will soon see airlines use AI and predictive analytics to create personalized promotional campaigns to improve upsell or cross-sell opportunities. After the free Wi-Fi services across airports, airlines are now looking to offer the provision inside the flight. It won't be long before we see Wi-Fi in all its domestic and international flights, letting passengers experience an entertaining flight journey. Airports, governments, and airlines alike are increasingly looking to create synergy between the airport stakeholders responsible for passenger facilitation through a seamless process. To that end, single token travel, facial recognition technologies, and biometrics will soon become mainstream across the aviation sector. That being said, the greater sprawl of innovative technology also brings newer threats in the scope of cybersecurity and user privacy. To address this, airlines must take a proactive approach and integrate a robust testing plan within their plan for the future. In this edition of APAC CIO Outlook, we bring to you the story of leading aviation tech solution providers that leverage advanced technologies to deliver the best outcomes for their clients.
