Security Awareness Korea: Structured, Bilingual Cybersecurity Compliance Consulting

    Ryan Moon, CEO
For any enterprise considering entry into South Korea’s digital economy, the country’s regulatory frameworks impose unique cybersecurity and privacy obligations that often diverge sharply from existing global policies. In addition, financial services, national infrastructure, and public sector engagements involve additional cybersecurity audits and evidence-based assessments mandated by regulatory authorities.

Stepping into this critical space is Security Awareness Korea (SAK), a consultancy specializing in cybersecurity and data protection compliance for organizations entering or operating in South Korea.

SAK is a cybersecurity compliance consultancy built on precision, transparency, and collaboration.

“Our core compliance services include end-to-end consulting for certification programs such as K-ISMS and CSAP, which are often mandatory for foreign businesses operating in Korea,” says Ryan Moon, CEO at Security Awareness Korea.

    De-Risking Compliance from Day One

Before a single form is filed or an audit scheduled, SAK ensures clients know exactly what they’re getting into. Global enterprises new to Korea’s regulatory complexity receive two complimentary sessions outlining applicable compliance programs and defining the exact scope of work.
These early consultations enable client leadership teams to understand timelines, technical requirements, and implications for ongoing operations.

Once onboarded, clients work with SAK specialists who are organized into clearly defined project phases. Deliverables span certification applications, self-assessment reports, evidence packages, and corrective action plans, produced in English and Korean to meet auditor expectations. Engagements typically run six to twelve months, depending on certification scope and audit location, with the company’s consultants maintaining continuous communication and setting measurable goals for every phase.

Once underway, the key challenge is reconciling global frameworks with Korea’s precise legal requirements. The company’s structured approach has proven valuable when bridging gaps between Korean regulatory obligations and global compliance frameworks. For instance, multinational clients may follow ISO 27001, GDPR, or SOC 2, but these frameworks often fail to address Korea’s specific legal provisions.

Our core compliance services include end-to-end consulting for certification programs such as K-ISMS and CSAP, which are often mandatory for foreign businesses operating in Korea,

In such cases, SAK forms resolution teams, which include the client’s internal legal experts, external Korean counsel, and head-office engineering leads. Together, they identify practical remediation steps, develop evidence packages, and prepare the client for third-party audits.
    Mastering CSAP and Beyond

CSAP certification is mandatory for cloud service providers to deliver services to Korean government agencies. Here, SAK acts as a consultant and guide through one of the country’s most stringent certification processes. In one instance, two global cloud firms partnered with SAK over two years to align global security practices with CSAP requirements. To date, SAK has supported more than 200 successful certifications and audits.

For finance and national infrastructure clients, SAK deploys industry-specific subject matter experts to address audit nuances unique to these high-stakes environments. This tailored guidance draws from decades of leadership experience, including direct participation in third-party audit processes. Every engagement embeds expert support into contractual terms, ensuring clients have access to the depth of knowledge needed to navigate complex regulatory demands.

While SAK’s current consulting model is built around human expertise and strategic collaboration, the company recognizes the potential for emerging technologies to improve efficiency further. SAK is also researching ways to leverage AI to automate repetitive compliance tasks and deliver actionable insights for complex engagements.

SAK’s methodical, client-focused model transforms compliance from a barrier into a business enabler. It helps clients meet obligations while gaining the confidence to scale in one of the world’s most competitive markets.
