Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. (ALLO): Creating a Single, High-Performance Network

CEO,Rodzi Ahmad, Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. (ALLO)Rodzi Ahmad, CEO
The Covid-19 pandemic has triggered an urgency for Malaysia to address the ‘new normal’ and cater to future demands of connectivity as an enabler for all facets of life: the economy and people’s livelihoods, education, business opportunities, as well as building and connecting communities amongst others. Enter Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. (ALLO).

ALLO provides a full suite of connectivity services through fiber infrastructure from the country’s border to border, data center connectivity, tower fiberisation, enabling cellular networks and 5G future-readiness, and fiber-to-the-home network. In line with the government’s National Digital Network (JENDELA), ALLO has positioned itself as a neutral service provider that supports retail service providers (RSPs) via its Open Access Network and wholesale network capacity for Carriers and Mobile Operators.

“We saw our current partners such as Maxis, Astro, and Digi pushing for sales to accommodate the demand for high-speed broadband services to the public. This is made possible with our Open Access Network, which allows us to collaborate with other RSPs to ensure that we can bridge the digital divide, and bring connectivity to the customers, especially in this crucial time,” says Rodzi Ahmad, the CEO of ALLO. During this time, many RSPs are also pushing to conclude the Access Agreement with ALLO so that they can also tap into this opportunity to reach their potential customers.

Through ALLO’s Open access Network, more RSPs are able to expand their digital footprint at a faster rate, and on the other hand, the customers have the option to choose the RSPs that they prefer, without being limited to only a single provider.
Apart from that, underserved areas that may only receive lower Mbps packages prior to this can now choose the packages that suit their need with speeds up to 1Gbps.

Further, ALLO’s Open-Access business model challenges the status quo by creating a single, high-performance network shared by all on-network providers. “This opens up more options to customers (residential or businesses) and accelerates the development of connectivity infrastructure in a shorter timeframe. Also, it stimulates healthy competition amongst service providers by offering the best packages and solutions at the best price,” states Ahmad.

As a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) wholly owned subsidiary, ALLO is able to leverage its parent company’s infrastructure and build its backbone at a shorter time period. “Our Open Access Network uses ALLO’s backbone, which is the ALLO Carrier Network System (ACNS). It is designed for businesses to serve their customers’ broadband needs on Malaysia’s most advanced fibre network. Our circuits run on 600G DWDM technology, the first in Malaysia which spans across Malaysia from Singapore to Thailand—more robust than other networks in the country. Through three different routes, it ensures network diversity and 100 percent uptime to keep businesses running at all times,” mentions Rodzi. To illustrate, by collaborating with ALLO, an RSP can leverage high-Speed Broadband Network infrastructure to further expand its fiber footprint in Peninsular Malaysia and offer fiber services to homes and businesses in these locations. A previous partnership with an RSP has made it an operator with the most access in the country, with over 3.7 million premises covered last year.

ACNS is also connected to major data centers in Malaysia such as MY01, MY02, CJ1, NTT, CX1 in Cyberjaya, AIMS, Kuala Lumpur, Menara Ansar Johor, Global Switch, and Equinix 1 and 3 in Singapore. For the future, the company is looking to achieve one million passes in 10 years, own telecommunication towers and data centers, expand into subsea connectivity services, and manage to capture at least five percent of the market share from the incumbents. “With the number of businesses connected to the Internet, and the need for data storage and processing is growing at an exponential rate, we understand businesses need to stay on top of their digital data, and we are always expanding our networks to give the best to our customers. That is why ALLO is your preferred connectivity services partner,” concludes Rodzi.

Allo Technology taps Infinera to boost its optical network and service in Malaysia

Allo Technology, a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) subsidiary, has selected Infinera’s ICE-X intelligent coherent pluggables and XTM Series platforms to expand network capacity and services throughout Malaysia.

Infinera’s solutions we... ere chosen after Allo found they meet its performance parameter during a recent field trial where Infinera’s suite of ICE-X intelligent pluggables was hosted in Infinera’s XTM Series packet optical networking platform across Allo’s network spanning 1,228 kilometers from the Thailand border to Malaysia.

According to Allo, Infinera’s solutions delivered high transmission performance and efficient traffic aggregation while expanding overall network capacity. Infinera’s solutions enable Allo to expand its services across Malaysia to bring broadband connectivity to the country, extending broadband services to parts of the country where services are unavailable.

Planned network deployments include point-to-multipoint network architectures utilizing the wide range of deployment options of Infinera’s ICE-X intelligent coherent pluggables and the XTM platform. Having point-to-multipoint architectures, Allo said it could gain network economics benefits with reduced network capital expenditure and network operating cost through lower space and power requirements and dramatic network simplification.

Deploying Infinera’s ICE-X coherent pluggables technology is an essential milestone for Allo, making it the first operator in the region to do so. The Allo Carrier Network System (ACNS) is the optical backbone for Malaysia, providing direct connectivity with broad coverage spanning the peninsula. Allo remains focused on its ACNS to identify innovative ways to enhance and maximize its network assets to offer customers cost-efficient, high-capacity next-generation services that are competitive and scalable.

“For network operators like Allo, Infinera’s latest solutions enable them to leverage existing network assets to extend bandwidth services seamlessly and efficiently,” said Ryan Perera, SVP of APAC Sales at Infinera. “This increases the value of their network infrastructure while positioning them for future growth.”
