Sensor technology is soaring high by leaps and bounds. Shaping the world with sensor solutions and with a firm belief in “Sensing is Life,” ams is dedicated to making devices smarter, safer, convenient, and environment-friendly. The company’s sensor solutions are the core of some of the products and technologies of today, from smartphone and mobile devices to buildings and smart homes, medical technology, industrial automation, and connected vehicles. “I believe the sensor market is the most exciting market in the semiconductor industry,” says Alexander Everke, CEO of the company. ams’ products require low power and provide the highest sensitivity and multi-sensor integration. Global leading manufacturers rely on ams’ sensing know-how for advanced systems design. The company offers sensors inclusive of optical sensors, interfaces, and related software in numerous areas like communication, consumer, industrial, medical, and automotive.

ams has an array of applications catering to automotive, health sensing, machine vision, and mobile and wearable. ams has served in the automotive market for 20 years now, and their sensors prevail in almost all the vehicles. The company offers magnetic sensors for electric motors and driver assistance systems. It provides infrared illumination solutions for 3D camera in cars based on the state-of-the-art Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology for advanced driver-assistance systems.

ams’ smart health sensing applications for healthcare include vital sign monitoring, medical imaging, energetic therapy, and diagnostics. The company’s essential sign sensing, used to measure body’s basic functions and assess a person’s general physical health, is a biometric sensor with a high accuracy rating, consisting of a combination of low-noise analog and optical front-end customized ams software and algorithms.

ams’ sensor solutions are the core of some of the products and technologies of today, from smartphone and mobile devices to buildings and smart homes, medical technology, industrial automation, and connected vehicles

Medical imaging allows manufacturers of Computer Tomography (CT) scanning equipment to create motion-free CT images coupled with a lesser dose of radiation for the exposed patient. ams’ medical imaging enables medical professionals to work with more explicit pictures and deliver better patient care.

ams machine vision sensing includes factory automation, Intelligent Transport System (ITS), document scanner, and logistics. Factory automation produces images like charged-coupled device (CCD) image sensors, offering various advantages of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors, intelligent transportation system (ITS) like CMV2000, CMV4000, CNV8000, and CMV12000, document scanner that scans CHR and CMV series with high resolution and logistics with global shutter capability and easy integration into scanners for both automated data capture (ADC) and automated inspection (AI) applications.

The company has several technologies applicable in mobile and wearables, like 3D sensing, display management, image enhancement, color matching, vital signs monitoring, and wireless earbud solutions. 3D sensing is a result of the combination of VCSEL technology and unique optical design and packaging expertise and supports 3D sensing technologies like Time-of-Flight, Active Stereo Vision, and Structured Light. ams display management has a paper-like display, small aperture and behind OLED screens. Image enhancement is done with auto white-balancing (AWB), light-source detection, and auto-focus and background blur assist. Color matching helps consumer experience retail and e-commerce operations backed by AI and other smart tools.

ams has a new partnership with MEGVII, an Artificial Intelligence company specializing in providing intelligent solution and data services to enterprises and developers, for plug-and-play solutions enabling 3D face recognition in any smart device. Together the companies created the first 3D Active Stereo solution that performs indoor and outdoor. In addition, China’s iESLab incorporates ams TDC-GP30 sensor chip in their new ultrasonic water flow measurement for high accuracy, less power consumption, and extended life operation. The ams team is focusing on shaping the world with sensor solutions making devices smarter and convenient.
