Binflux: Pioneer in Digital Reproductive Medicine

    CEO,Mark Liu, BinfluxMark Liu, CEO
In the past few years, APAC nations have experienced declining birth rates as a result of late marriage, work stress, fast-paced lifestyle, as well as other arising causes. Although In-vitro fertilization (IVF) emerges as the remedy, the treatment only promises an average of 30 percent success rate. It is also relatively expensive and involves a high degree of complex procedures, along with the fast-growing amount of paper-based data. Undeniably, the IVF market is in need of a digital solution that eliminates such challenges in reproductive medicine. Besides, the past couple of years have seen a surge in demand for artistic reproductive technology for infertility treatment. Subsequently, there is a need for intelligent data management system for reproductive medicine that solves such issues around IVF treatment.

Dr. Mark Liu, a digital health enthusiast, had the vision to overcome all these challenges by focusing on healthcare data and developing IVF specific EMRs. He began working on the data management system to eliminate all the problems around data-driven success in IVF treatment market. Dr. Liu was aware that EMRs are the most valuable healthcare data storage hub, and as an EMR vendor, using the same EMR could eliminate data heterogeneity across the IVF care market. To bring his vision to reality, Dr. Liu established Binflux, to develop a one-stop digital solution for fertility centers that combines information and communications technology with reproductive medicine to improve process quality, reduce operation time and workforce, and maximize the power of fertility data. The company works closely with the top IVF center in Taiwan and identifies its clinical needs to provide suitable digital solutions through its flagship product—Infans EMR.

Data management is crucial to ensure accurate diagnosis, treatment, and embryo implantation and positive outcome of IVF treatment. On the same account, Binflux’s intelligent data management and analytics system, Infans EMR, addresses the challenge around IVF treatment by integrating data from various clinical, laboratory, and administrative workflows of the fertility centers. Infans EMR acts as an IVF data hub, combined with Internet of Things (IoT) technology and patient-engagement App (InfansCareU), to collect, store, and deliver all the data generated in reproductive medicine to power and advance the development of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Infans EMR with optimized user interface and experience (UI/UX) design can be applied in both PC and tablets. The system consists of four modules—cycle management, lab management, work calendar, and KPI statistics with QC/ QA monitoring—along with more than 100 functions integrated into a single digital platform.

Binflux identifies various needs of fertility centers to provide a one-stop digital solution for reproductive medicine, maximizing the power of data and increasing the chances of IVF success

Additionally, Infans EMR caters mostly to the feedback from their customers, i.e., the clinical requirements of consultants, physicians, and embryologists. “With Infans EMR, we are delivering a one-stop digital solution for reproductive medicine, which includes data collecting, storing, managing, and analyzing. Our goal is to streamline the entire IVF treatment process and maximize the power of data in reproductive medicine,” says Dr. Liu.

Established since 2017, Binflux has pioneered the digitization of reproductive medicine and formed a strong partnership with top IVF centers in Taiwan. The company has achieved a feat of being one of the leading digital solution providers in reproductive medicine in Taiwan, with more than 35 percent of IVF cycles benefiting by the digital solutions they are providing. In a recent engagement, the firm partnered with Lee Women’s Hospital, Taiwan’s biggest fertility center, with more than 4000 cycles per year. The medical facility has accumulated a vast amount of dataset of medical records, patient information, and experiment data generated from IVF lab equipment, which needed to be accessed by multiple medical staff. Binflux’s Infans EMR provided an easy-way-out for all the clinicians, nurses, and embryologists and made data available to the team, anywhere and anytime. Similarly, Binflux partnered with National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH), which is Taiwan’s flagship teaching hospital with a high quality of academic research. NTUH uses Infans EMR with tablets in the IVF lab to instantly record experimental data and export it for further analytics, to gain insights into methods and outcomes of IVF treatment.

For such a successful and fruitful track record, Dr. Liu credits Binflux’s expert team members of passion, persistence, and execution, along with the company’s core values, that are based on its slogan ‘Connecting the Future’ which is the driving force behind Binflux’s dedication to serve its customers and create values for them.

Binflux now envisions a promising future with business expansion across nations in APAC. The firm has an established customer base with flagship IVF centers and academic institutes in Taiwan and strives to add more clients in the coming year. Another ongoing goal of Binflux is to achieve higher IVF success (with clinical evidence) while collecting real world evidence (RWE) across multiple IVF centers and nations. Overall, Binflux is enhancing its AI-powered IVF solutions to improve decision-making processes, increase pregnancy chances, and eventually higher live birth rates. “We want to make sure that IVF treatment for everyone results in ‘more success, less risk,’” concludes Dr. Liu.
