Blinkware Technology: Making a Difference with Optical Image Recognition

Alvin Koh,Founder & CEO, Blinkware TechnologyAlvin Koh, Founder & CEO
When a company seeks to integrate facial recognition or any gesture detection into its systems, it often has to invest in specific hardware which turns out to be very expensive and as the technology requirement advances, so do the hardware prices. Alvin Koh, Founder & CEO of Blinkware Technology, adds to it saying, “Not everything has to be an expensive exercise and there are solutions out there that meet the requirements, but are not heavy on your pocket.” Blinkware Technology works against the trends prevailing in the market by using intelligent software technology as a means to enhance the capabilities of mainstream readily available hardware including webcams, mobile phones, and CCTV cameras.

The company offers machine learning technology through optical image recognition to address varied challenges faced by organizations in automotive, retail, finance, and even fast food chains. Blinkware Technology delivers a software that works on the traditional low-cost 2D cameras for motion, gesture, facial, and object recognition—a capability that deems significant for various operations. For instance, in the automotive sector, the company utilizes it for detection of defects in automotive parts ensuring 100 percent checks are executed compared to random sampling which is a common practice in the industry. In one of its projects, Blinkware Technology associated with a leading automotive manufacturer in Malaysia helped it reduce the time taken for detecting the defects in parts of cars manufactured by them. The company faced problems with regard to the diameter of holes, welding quality, and angle position in some parts, which proved to be a hindrance in the assembly of cars.
Blinkware Technology assisted the client in detection of defects in these parts through optical surface image detection, carried out using 2D web cameras and reduced the time taken for the manual checking of parts from 45 minutes through random part sampling to a 100 percent component check in a mere five minutes drastically improving its critical quality control process.

The company utilizes existing infrastructure and mainstream hardware such as CCTV cameras and 2D webcams to carry out skeletal, facial, and object detection across industries

Blinkware Technology, with its unique gesture recognition technology, has also been catering to security related needs of the banking industry. The ATMs often face robberies and security risks, which Blinkware Technology tackles with its software that uses the existing CCTV camera hardware and integrates it with object & skeletal recognition. By scanning specific objects and body postures, the software alerts the security in case of a potential mishap. These solutions work well as 2D cameras have already penetrated into the market and the clients do not have to change their existing infrastructure. Blinkware Technology remains the pioneer in South-east Asia with this capability of utilizing the existing infrastructure.

The company utilizes the existing infrastructure such as CCTV cameras and webcams to carry out skeletal, facial, and motion detection across industries. Apart from these capabilities, the company’s software also performs self-improvement through artificial intelligence. Through machine learning algorithms, the system continues to learn and improve the accuracy by itself with time, a great add-on for clients employing the technology.

Building towards the future, Blinkware Technology is preparing to launch a software development kit—a new platform that the company believes will redefine human interaction with systems. The software development kit is a set of pre-defined libraries for motion, gesture, hand, facial recognition and behavioral data analytics software that Blinkware Technology aims to reach developers all around the world to deliver image recognition technology. The software development kit will be web accessible through a license-based model.

The company caters to its clients by mixing and matching the range of technology solutions they build with an aim to fit into multiple ecosystems. Abiding by this ideology, the company is creating software with all the technologies bundled in it, which will be named “AIRRE”. This software will have the capability to collect mass amounts of data points continually increasing its accuracy through machine learning. Thus, with an aim to build a license-based model and no Capex costs, the company seeks to invest more in cost-effective and client-friendly solutions.
