THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING
Business Progress Inc. has been recognized by APAC CIOOutlook Magazine as “Top Business Visualization Technology Solutions in APAC 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “{top_list_title},” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the APAC CIOOutlook research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Kensuke Taoka.
Kensuke Taoka, DirectorSince its founding in 2015, Business Progress has focused on improving business execution through its Business Event Management (BEM) approach.
Instead of centering on past data, BEM tracks what is happening across operations in real time. Every issue or task that arises is treated as an event, linked to a specific entity such as equipment, an order or a location. These events are detected either automatically through enterprise system data or manually by users and then registered within the system. Events are organized under themes such as facility management, risk management, or production, and displayed through maps or business diagrams. The structured visualization enables users across teams to quickly gain relevant insights and to act on it. BEM also supports the actions required to address each event and tracks their progress. These actions can follow predefined workflows or be created as needed.
“BEM connects events directly with actions, allowing organizations to respond quickly and effectively as situations unfold,” says Kensuke Taoka, director.
Improving Operational Accuracy
The way BEM is used differs from traditional BI tools. While BI functions as an analytical layer that relies on data from existing enterprise systems, BEM can be implemented either as an enabler integrated into existing applications or as a standalone application. As an enabler, it monitors execution and trigger exception handling when abnormalities are detected. A BEM enabler can extend beyond a single system to operate across multiple systems, functioning as the nervous system of the entire enterprise. When deployed as a standalone application, it acquires subject data, detects events and supports resolution independently.
BEM connects events directly with actions, allowing organizations to respond quickly and effectively as situations unfold.
Accuracy and consistency is critical in integrating multiple enterprise systems. BEM addresses this by triggering events when collected data exceeds predefined thresholds. These thresholds are not always simple values but can involve patterns or combinations of data. Over time, they are refined to improve detection accuracy and maintain reliable, near real-time visualization.
While BEM may resemble business process management (BPM), it differs in flexibility and visualization. When BPM supports structured, stable and optimized processes using predefined process diagrams, BEM is built for dynamic and variable operations, where conditions can change frequently and require flexible responses.
Its visualization approach supports multiple formats such as maps, diagrams, layouts, or images depending on the context of the event. The patented technology simplifies location search on raster-based maps, making indoor navigation and map search applications easier to implement.
Delivering Operational Efficiency in Complex Environments
A clear example of Business Progress’ BEM in action is its engagement with Nakano Broadway, a large complex combining retail and residential spaces. With hundreds of equipment units including air conditioning, water supply, drainage and power supply, maintenance teams previously relied on paper maps and manual tracking to manage issues.
Following the introduction of BEM, floor maps were digitized and each piece of equipment was defined as a subject with a precise location. When an issue occurs, it is registered as an event and displayed as a pin on the map. Teams can click the pin to view the status and required actions, enabling faster response and coordination. This led to a significant improvement in maintenance efficiency.
Business Progress actively incorporates client feedback to improve usability, particularly in refining its user interface. Over time, this ensures more precise search results and a smoother user experience.
As operations become more dynamic and data environments more complex, Business Progress improves business execution by making events visible, understandable and actionable in a structured way.
