It’s not what the technology can do for us that matters, but rather what we can do with the technology,” quips Roy Lo, Business Director of Creote Studio, about the motto that drives his company. Founded in 2014, Creote Studio is a specialist in the incorporation of latest cutting-edge technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), in its designs to add an intuitive user experience to business applications. Creote Studio positions itself as a design company that caters for customer’s needs through the development of business-specific applications, rather than being known as a technology provider.

Creote Studio’s WedCam, is a platform created by the amalgamation of AR and VR. WedCam is an application compatible across all Android and iOS supported devices. The app can be downloaded for free from Google Play and App Store. Its cost free availability as compared to the expensive, time-consuming traditional approach of developing exclusive AR applications is a big differentiator for the company. WedCam utilizes a cloud infrastructure to manage the effects. This creates greater flexibilities in the design, and at the same time greatly reduces the costs and time required for the production of the effects. Wedcam garnered global recognition in 2015 when it was announced the first runner-up for the prestigious Qualcomm Vuforia Vision Award.

Lo mentions that there has been a significant growth in the awareness of the benefits of AR and VR among organizations worldwide.

He adds that the recent years have also seen a rise in the Cost-effective adoption of AR & VR for the development of business applications. “Many companies have been utilizing the benefits of these technologies for game applications and marketing purposes,” informs Lo. Creote Studio’s motive is to provide design solutions powered by AR and VR that enhance sustainability and yield long-term benefits for the client organizations. The company has offered its assistance to several businesses in the creation of interactive marketing materials by incorporating AR & VR effects. The services recently rendered by Creote Studio to hospitality giant JW Marriott is a fine illustration of the company’s capability in providing an intuitive user experience. “The idea is to create connections between the guests and the hotel. It helps the guests to learn and explore around the hotel, and at the same time providing enriched information about the surrounding attractions from the hotel, giving ease and convenience to their trip planning”, Lo added. The company also imparted its Augmented Reality expertise to the Information Technology giant HP for the promotion of its recently released product.

Creote Studio’s illustrious journey began on a humble note, with the design of invitation cards and photo books targeted at the wedding industry. Eventually, the organization went on to successfully address a broad range of concerns of its clients through the incorporation of AR, VR and 3D modelling. Lo attributes the efforts of his firm’s design team as the reason behind the astounding success. “The majority of our staff comprises of designers who create simulated, 3D environments by incorporating many elements we see in the real world,” says Lo. The Business Director of Creote Studio reveals that a development of an AR app which accommodates user generated content is one of the immediate priorities in the company’s pipeline for the near future. “We are also putting our focus towards the training and maintenance sectors of the market since there has been a rise in need of augmented reality and virtual reality in these disciplines. We are working with major utility companies in Hong Kong and designing experiences with AR and VR that could create long term values and benefits for the industry,” concludes Lo.
