Deltadata Mandiri: Enabling Digital Transformation Fast

Founder and CEO,Steven Law, Deltadata MandiriSteven Law, Founder and CEO
“It’s no longer the big beating the small, but the fast beating the slow.” While these words by Eric Pearson emphasize an altered reality of an era that is embracing rapid digitalization, a majority of the companies delivering digital transformation solutions or services are yet to realize the same. Despite their value proposition reverberating similar messages about enabling digital transformation, these companies struggle to deliver the services at a fast pace, owing to a dearth of the right people, processes, and technology. In this context, exceptions are only a few. Corroborating the idea of Pearson is Jakarta-based Deltadata Mandiri, which provides fast and agile digital transformation services, reflecting on its unique value proposition: “enabling digital transformation fast.” Be it delivering applications on-premise, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment, Deltadata’s branding has persistently been uniform since its inception, with seamless integration of the right people, process, and technology.

According to Steven Law, founder and CEO, Deltadata Mandiri, time is the new currency in digital transformation. Taking years to drive digital transformation in a company makes the entire project meaningless, because, by the end, the business itself undergoes drastic changes. As its winning differentiator, Deltadata comprehends its customers’ requirements in every phase, to deliver services faster than its competitors. While the other companies hire software developers to introduce digital transformation in enterprises, Deltadata employs a team of versatile and talented professionals to ascertain that various other prerequisites of digital transformation are also met—the first step being its clients’ business analysis. Deltadata performs business process analysis, facilitates business process design, and more, to understand the outcome of the transformation. Besides, it has created a cloud-based collaboration tool called Sengkuyung (the word originating from cultural rich Javanese Krama Inggil, meaning "working together", or "gotong royong" in Bahasa) to collaborate with its clients, understand their requirements, and safeguard the interests of all the stakeholders. Deltadata also supervises requirement engineering, and after collaboration, it zeros down on requirement analysis and documentation. Once all these fragments are organized, Deltadata steps forward to develop the applications.

Though extensive, this method of digital transformation is incredibly faster and agile. As a company embracing agility and dynamic vision, Deltadata has defied the widespread use of the waterfall approach by a majority of the enterprises, particularly in Asia, and has adopted a Scrum Agile Project Management methodology that allows customers to modify application development in between. After all, the outcome is what matters to the clients.

Having deemed UI/UX as an organization’s prima facie, we have developed our UI/UX teams, not as designers but developers

Once the right technology and the right people are in place, the company progresses with the right process to accelerate application development. Deltadata uses a low code platform or modern native framework for the clients to have an integrated development environment combining front and back end API services. This rapid application development platform is quite different from the local platforms offered via an expensive and rigid subscription model. Also, by using its full-cycle open source DevOps platform, Deltadata manages every aspect of the clients’ application development such as deploying the application to container orchestration, casting it, deploying to Kubernetes cluster, operating and managing container clusters, and, finally, monitoring it.

A large number of companies have benefitted from Deltadata’s unique method of enabling digital transformation and application development. A global standard hybrid cloud solution provider, named Telkom Telstra is its prime example. The company offers network services, media security services, cloud services, and professional services for security and cloud. With its two servers set up in different locations, Telkom Telstra collaborated with Deltadata to implement its full-cycle open source DevOps platform that provided support to their agile hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Deltadata’s dedicated UI/UX teams have also delivered unmatchable support to its clients, especially in Asia, where digital transformation solutions and services providers depend on third-party UI/UX developers while developing applications. Law mentions, “Having deemed UI/UX as an organization’s prima facie, we have developed our UI/UX teams, not as designers but developers focusing on elements like information architecture and visual design, among others.”

After developing 19 enterprise projects in the last 12 months, Deltadata is now planning to add new capabilities to its service portfolio in 2020 by introducing a new application framework, Webform 3.0 and an updated version of Business Process Model and Notation, BPMN 2.0. “Since gadgets are evolving, users are no more restricted to cell phones and are opting for multiple browsers, we need a client-side API and not the server-side,” says Law. “However, an application without proper workflow is also a dumb application. So, we need to separate the workflow process.” Consequently, Deltadata is not only developing a serverless, stateless API application with Webform 3.0 but is adopting BPMN 2.0 to provide users a separate workflow. The new BPMN platform would accommodate a parallel path and gateway, put together in a single code of API, into Deltadata’s integrated development environment.

Along with accelerating the pace of digital transformation, these changes would make the applications more integrated and ensure added benefits to larger enterprises. Furthermore, Deltadata is strengthening the focus on multi-cloud capabilities. In the near future, it also hopes to address its clients’ issues with regard to the dearth of skill and scarcity of resources.
