Vanguards of Open Source Cloud Computing

EasyStack

CIO VendorXi Lun Chen, Founder and CEO
As the world is profusely moving toward cloud-based reliable products, superior technology has become imperative for tech-savvy organizations. “In terms of cloud computing, elasticity, flexibility, and application-centric platforms and services are the need of the hour,” mentions Xi Lun Chen, Founder and CEO of EasyStack. “As a result, we have committed ourselves to promote open source cloud computing technology as the core of all our offerings,” he adds. The Beijing-based firm is one of the three enterprise-ready infrastructure software companies globally with both OpenStack and Kubernetes products. EasyStack is also China's first software company with Linux and OpenStack enterprise-ready infrastructure. Furthermore, the company is the only Chinese vendor to have an individually elected board member in the OpenStack Foundation. Today, with its market-proven offerings and an adept team, EasyStack is leading the open source cloud computing technology movement in China.

The firm has a robust partnership ecosystem comprising over 100 partners, including IBM, AWS, Cisco, and Intel. EasyStack’s products are deployed by Global Fortune 500 companies and other organizations such as China UnionPay, China Mobile, China Telecom, and Tsinghua University. Powered by its competent team, EasyStack architects diversified products that assist the mission-critical business needs of over 300 large and medium-sized enterprises.

The company’s repertoire of services includes EasyStack Cloud Service (ECS), ECS Stack, EasyStack Application Marketplace, and EasyStack Kubernetes Service (EKS). ECS is an advanced application-centric cloud service platform that brings stable, reliable, and flexible on-demand cloud computing services for business applications where both static state and state sensitive coexist.

Today, with its market-proven offerings and an adept team, EasyStack is leading the open source cloud computing technology movement in China and across Asia

With this service, EasyStack assists its clients with solutions in private, industry, and hybrid cloud by building scalable and reliable data centers. The second offering ECS Stack enables small and medium-sized enterprises to deploy cloud computing in a viable and prompt manner. Built by combining cloud computing and HCI, it comes equipped with a self-service operations management platform, visual design orchestrator, minimal deployment/ elastic scaling, and a smart update engine.

The third product, EasyStack Application Marketplace, is a management and delivery platform for application service providers and developers. It supports a variety of application orchestration frameworks and is a one-stop platform for online deployment, operations, maintenance, and management. Lastly, comes EKS which is an enterprise-ready container platform architected to provide application management services to customers. This product allows users to centrally manage and publish containerized applications in the platform. “It deeply integrates with Kubernetes and OpenStack, and delivers the last kilometer of new-generation application delivery in cloud data centers, ensuring that the sum of 1+1 is greater than 2, which becomes its performance advantage.”

Citing one example, Chen mentions how EasyStack assisted TCL to cope with high concurrent online business transactions volume during peak seasons like ‘618’ and ‘Double 11’. The TCL group, he says, wanted to migrate its O2O platform to a hybrid cloud architecture implemented by on-premise private cloud and supplemented by public cloud technologies. At the end of two years, TCL had replaced its traditional VMware virtualization architecture with EasyStack ECS platform and also allow hybrid management of resources on AWS, making the company's business operations more flexible, reliable, and efficient.

Over the years, EasyStack has received many awards for continually playing a quintessential role in diversifying open source cloud computing technology in China. In 2016, EasyStack received the Gartner Cool Vendors award in China and was the only open source cloud computing Chinese company to feature on the list.

Forging ahead, the firm intends to release an ECS 5.0 cloud platform and make it one of the most prominent offerings in the open source cloud computing world. “With our latest ECS platform, our goal is to allow seamless transition from a cloud-ready HCI product to full fledge industrial strength OpenStack with Ceph and Kubernetes; with built-in comprehensive cloud infrastructure and container features and an intelligent upgrade engine that will eradicate the downtimes that occurs while upgrading to a new service,” concludes Chen.
