EXILANT: Trailblazing in the IoT ecosystem

Vishnu Sharma,Associate VP & Chief Architect, Head of Zaglabs, EXILANTVishnu Sharma, Associate VP & Chief Architect, Head of Zaglabs
The future of IoT in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region is highly promising. In the past couple of years, APAC has shown a tremendous growth not only in IoT adoption but also in driving the pace of innovation as well. Yet, the promising landscape is far from being utopian. The complexity and cost of manufacturing, implementation, support, and security are pertaining bottlenecks. Despite such roadblocks, the Bengaluru-based innovative company—EXILANT Technologies is paving its way into the APAC region. Founded in 2004 as an IT services company, it has been focusing on cloud computing, big data, mobility, and IoT. The company has a research lab (a.k.a ZagLabs) dedicated to IoT. Vishnu Sharma, Head of ZagLabs, Associate Vice President and Chief Architect at EXILANT appends, "We are one of the few end-to-end IoT technology solution providers in the market. Our ability to cover field to enterprise— hardware, software, and associated IT integration services, all under one roof — is the key differentiator."

The firm has been relentlessly working towards developing best-of-breed IoT technology solutions that include authenticated and encrypted message exchange among the network of IoT devices, cloud, and enterprise servers. EXILANT has filed and holds numerous patents with USPTO and other jurisdictions that establish security and ensure safe and secure transmission of data between IoT nodes that use Constrained Application Protocol within a sensor network.

We are one of the few end-to-end IoT technology solution providers in the market. Our ability to cover field to enterprise— hardware, software, and associated IT integration services, all under one roof— is the key differentiator

To further cement its position in the IoT space, EXILANT has implemented a three-pronged strategy—be a one-stop destination for enterprises looking for rapid IoT adoption, by providing all services under a single umbrella; leverage its patents and technologies to lower development and implementation risks; and introduce best-of-breed IoT products to market. Three such products are Nebulaboard, Ambiscope, and NetLock. Anywhere Anytime Online Locks®. Nebulaboard is an IoT connectivity module that needs only three AT commands to send sensor data to EXILANT’s cloud server named CoAPWorks. Ambiscope, on the other hand, is a fully autonomous, wireless sensing device that measures temperature and humidity periodically and transmits the data to cloud server. It can also raise e-mail and SMS alarms. Presently, the thumb-drive sized WiFi device is one of the most sophisticated yet cost-effective products available in this market segment.

EXILANT’s strategy of providing IoT as a service—building new custom IoT devices on-demand or IoT enabling existing devices through retrofitting for business needs, is made possible by the ecosystem consisting of its IoT platform, partners and suppliers, and the rich inventory of accelerators, processes, and technologies that EXILANT has created over the past few years. In an arena where deployment of unsecure systems is high, EXILANT is well poised to address the security lacuna in IoT. EXILANT is also setting up a new subsidiary in the U.S. that would solely concentrate on the IoT business. Reminiscing, Sharma adds, "Right from the outset, we wanted to be creators of technology. Today, we have a full ecosystem that is up-to-date, with the ability to deploy disruptive and secure technologies.”
