GOCI has been recognized by APAC CIOOutlook Magazine as the recipient of “Top Insurance Technology Companies,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the APAC CIOOutlook research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Gina Halomoan Lubis.

Guaranteeing Affordable Insurance

Low insurance awareness, pricing, access to insurance services and complicated claimprocess—the most common challenges faced by the insurance buyers of today, set the foundation stone for Gina HalomoanLubis’s GOCI. While pursuing her Masters’ Degree at Harvard, Gina realized that the insurance space was too far behind its time, making it difficult for the young customers to understand and choose the right plan for themselves. “Among 265 million residents in Indonesia, less than 2 percent of people are enrolled under specific insurance programs,” observes Gina. The CEO of the company, Gina, with Co-Founders Ogi Prayogo, Bambang Suseno and Irvan Said is dedicated to make insurance accessible to all, eliminating misconceptions and complexities in the process and empowering customers to make informed decisions with the GOCI platform, the company’s indigenous offering. Contrary to the times when individuals had to purchase an insurance plan with the assistance of a broker, GOCI is eliminating the intervention of a middleman entirely, thereby making customers more aware of the terms and prerequisites of an insurance.

A digital insurance platform, GOCI allows clients to enjoy easy access to insurance products and information, reach a wider target audience in the most efficient way, automate claims, and manage underwritings, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Aiming to reintroduce insurance as an affordable necessity among common people in Indonesia, we have already established strong strategic alliances with some of the largest brokerage firms in the country

“GOCI is capable of reducing the costs associated with customer acquisition and maintenance, thereby empowering insurance firms to become more agile, profitable, and competitive in the business and offer affordable insurance plans to their customers,” states Gina. The company receives technology and management advisory from Harvard University Professors and Harvard Innovation Lab.

“The GOCI platform has been specifically designed to cater to the Millennials, who prefer comparing several insurance plans before purchasing them online, in order to save time. To support this, GOCI’s digital insurance aggregator services will enable people to assess insurance products and make informed, hassle free purchases,” elaborates Irvan, Chief Development Officer, GOCI. The target market, according to Irvan, will utilize digital data in an effort to identify customers and personalize customer experience efficiently.

Added to that, the GOCI platform’s AI and ML capabilities will automate all insurance processes, such as customer acquisition, underwriting, claims and ongoing customers’ engagement. The company will also offer efficient risk assessment and self-service claim applications to its clients, which in the long run, will guarantee more security while purchasing insurance policies.

“We have developed a predicting model in order to identify fake and fraudulent claims. GOCI will provide recommendation to insurers and brokers, assess claim validity, and offer recommendation to approve or reject a claim,” explains Suseno, GOCI Co-Founder and Chairman at The Association of Indonesian Qualified Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers (APARI).

That’s not all; GOCI has also been programmed to analyze customer data for determining their insurance purchasing behavior, aiming to offer more suitable products. Scheduled for launch this year, GOCI is already enjoying the support of insurance companies from all across Indonesia. GOCI is also a proud participant of the Harvard i-Lab for young promising ventures.“Aiming to reintroduce insurance as an affordable necessity among common people in Indonesia, we have already established strong strategic alliances with some of the largest brokerage firms in the country and are sharing resources with them in order to enhance competitiveness,” states Gina. This advancement is undoubtedly setting new standards for technology used in insurance industry in Indonesia, while broadening product and services offerings.
