The virtual portrayals acting as the real-time digital equivalent of physical devices, objects, or systems are playing a pivotal role to meet the ever-changing needs of society.Digital Twin is bringing in unlimited possibilities through merging worlds of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics in the fourth industrial revolution.Digital twins are driving significant business value and are primarily being adopted across various industries, including telecom, governments, engineering, and service. In light of the same, Andy Liddle and Ray Laughton founded ICD Asia Pacific in Western Sydney in 1970 to provide world-class engineering services of a larger firm while maintaining the customer focus of a smaller private company.

ICD, a digital twin solution provider, was established as a small team of engineers and designers to supply personnel and services to local companies, including Babcock’s and the Shell Clyde refinery and terminal. The enterprise is a team of Australian engineers, designers, and project managers providing services to the energy, chemical, power, and mining services sectors.By the early 90s, ICD had grown into a mid-sized engineering consulting business servicing the hydrocarbon and power industries.Recognizing the value the team offered, Shell Engineering Australasia bought ICD in 1999, intending to expand into the Asia Pacific region and continue to supply engineering services to its regular customer base.
Asia Pacific Digital Twin Market size surpassed USD 1 billion in 2019 and is set to observe a 35% growth rate from 2020 to 2026.Major players in the automotive, manufacturing and engineering industries are adopting Industry 4.0, which includes digital twin for factory automation and smart supply chain.Due to the increased demand for cost-effective maintenance services, the Asia Pacific digital twin market’s process support and service segment will rise at a CAGR of over 34% during the forecast period.

ICD Asia Pacific offers a broad range of services that includes project engineering, advanced engineering, digital services, asset performance, and geospatial engineering. ICD project management continues through the construction phase, then into asset management over the duration of the asset lifecycle.ICD can acquire insight into the scope required by working closely with clients from the beginning. The precise, accurate design leaves no ambiguity for the balance of the project, allowing for ‘right-fit, first-time.’

ICD serves several industries such as oil and gas, water and wastewater, defence, distribution, mining, industrial and chemical.Additionally, ICD’s foundations were laid in the oil refining industry in Australia. It has been a part of the evolution of the industry. ICD is still servicing the Australian oil & gas and power industries, while in recent years the company has successfully diversified with engineering projects within the water, defence, materials handling, and food & beverage industries. ICD’s reputation as a leader in innovation has been enhanced by partnerships with universities and research institutions such as the University of Newcastle and the University of Sydney.

Over the past 50 years, ICD’s culture of precision and quality has developed strongly, and we see the results of this culture in the relationships built with our clients

Furthermore, ICD conducts process design and specification for water and wastewater treatment facilities for both major metropolitan and regional clients. The company is well experienced in pumping station design and upgrades, surge analysis and water hammer calculations, and the balance of plant design, including civil and structural, mechanical, piping, pump selection, instrumentation, and electrical power distribution.

Treading ahead, ICD aspires to further growth in these areas, making use of the latest technology to add value on behalf of clients, including Virtual Reality, 3D laser scanning, and knowledge management platforms.
