IQVIA: Redefining the Future of Healthcare

IQVIA has a long history of technology innovation, dating back to 1954. Formed in 2016 through the merger of two market leaders in the healthcare and life sciences space–IMS Health, the leading information and analytics provider for commercial services, and Quintiles, the world’s largest Clinical Research Organization (CRO)–technology leadership is one of the pillars of the company strategy.

Today, IQVIA (a Fortune 500 company) has a thriving business, cutting across the worlds of clinical, real-world insights, compliance, and commercial services. The company is helping in defining a new industry segment called Human Data Science, where technology, data, analytics and unmatched domain expertise are combined to bring tangible benefits for human healthcare.

IQVIA Technologies address some of the most difficult challenges faced in the healthcare realm. From dramatically reducing the time taken for clinical trials, 80 percent of which face delays today, to improving evidence generation with new ways of using and enriching real-world data to deliver insights, the list is still growing. “We help life sciences companies coordinate better across clinical and commercial functions to improve the experience of their key customers: patients, consumers, and healthcare professionals,” explains Jonathan Foster, Practice Leader, Head of Technology Solutions for SEA.
Building on its legacy of collecting and curating healthcare data, (IQVIA tracks and manages information of about 85 percent of global pharma sales, works with 1 million plus data sources and manages more than 30+ petabytes of data and is the world’s largest healthcare data “lake”) IQVIA Technologies also addresses long-standing challenges of interoperability and fragmentation of data in the industry. They are working with the best-in-class platforms, such as Salesforce, MuleSoft and Reltio to build integrated SaaS solutions that work seamlessly across the multiple functions of a life sciences company.

We help life sciences companies coordinate better across commercial functions to improve the experience of their key customers: patients, consumers, and healthcare professionals

The team is embedding AI/ML into their solutions to accelerate activities that allow users to make better decisions and drive business outcomes, based on the ever-increasing volumes of data. AI techniques are being used for multiple use cases in IQVIA. Based on their access to anonymized patient and clinical records, they can predict disease risks, help identify the best sites to carry out clinical trials, and predict persistence and compliance, all of which ultimately drive efficiencies and cost-savings during the drug discovery process.

One of the most tangible examples of AI and technology being used to drive commercial execution is the IQVIA Orchestrated Customer Engagement (OCE) solution designed to support life sciences companies collaborate seamlessly across sales, marketing and other functions as they interact with their customers. The solution is built on the best-in-class industry standard platforms such as Salesforce, but IQVIA also adds 3 differentiating components—‘Integration’, ‘Design’ and ‘Intelligence’. The latter is a persona-based artificial intelligence system, designed to augment the end-user’s decision making and daily activities. It suggests the various ‘next best actions’ to the user, the next best customer to contact, next best content to provide them, all based around an ever-increasing wealth of data and business intelligence within the solution.

The world of healthcare is inherently driven by safety, conservatism and quality, and every day sees more regulations, increasing number of data sources and rising cost challenges. IQVIA’s technology and expertise is helping to address these core challenges as well as improve efficiencies and foster innovation across the healthcare ecosystem, as it continues its mission to deliver solutions that drive healthcare forward.

IQVIA Wins Prestigious "Best AI-based Solution for Healthcare" Award in 2023 Artificial Intelligence Breakthrough Awards

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.: IQVIA™ (NYSE:IQV), a leading global provider of advanced analytics, technology solutions, and clinical research services to the life science industry, today announced that it has been selected as winner of the "Best AI-based Solution for Healthcare" ...  award in the sixth annual AI Breakthrough Awards, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) market today.

IQVIA has received recognition for its AI software, which includes cutting-edge natural language processing (NLP) technology. This advanced software analyzes intricate and unstructured patient data, providing valuable and unique insights into patient care and disease conditions. This technology is widely used by customers in both the life science and healthcare sectors, helping them gain crucial insights into population health, including factors related to social determinants of health (SDoH) that significantly impact overall health outcomes.

A notable example of its effectiveness is evident in the case of NorthShore - Edward-Elmhurst Health, the third-largest healthcare delivery system in Illinois. By leveraging IQVIA's AI software, clinicians at this healthcare facility have been able to identify and screen an impressive 56% more at-risk patients based on SDoH indicators. This targeted approach allows for timely and appropriate interventions to be provided to patients in need, ultimately improving their healthcare outcomes.

"Congratulations to IQVIA for delivering true breakthrough AI technology for the healthcare market. Their AI and NLP solution delivers a reliable, repeatable, and transparent means for healthcare organizations to transform their understanding of patient level social determinants of health," said James Johnson, managing director, AI Breakthrough. "AI & NLP solutions are often a black box making it difficult to understand. IQVIA addresses this challenge head-on, providing a breakthrough AI-based solution already leading to improved patient outcomes."

"IQVIA is honored to receive this award and would like to thank AI Breakthrough for understanding the importance of this work," said Benjamin Hughes, SVP Artificial Intelligence and Real World Data at IQVIA. "Healthcare organizations are trying to understand how they can positively impact patient outcomes through better use of the vast data available. With our AI software and domain experience, complex data can be made actionable across life science and healthcare. We’re committed to enabling the use of validated AI in healthcare for clinicians and data scientists."

IQVIA Launches "One Home" Clinical Trial Technology Platform - Solves Challenges and Reduces Overload at Sites

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C: IQVIA (NYSE:IQV) today announced the launch of One Home for Sites™, a new technology platform that acts as a single sign-on and a single dashboard for the key systems and tasks a clinical research site needs to perform across all of the clinical tria... als it is conducting.

Clinical research sites manage scores of usernames and passwords in dozens of software applications as they navigate through numerous tasks they must complete each day in conducting clinical trials. This technology overload reduces the time site staff have to recruit and treat patients and the number of trials a site is able to manage simultaneously.

IQVIA One Home for Sites meets this challenge by enabling pharmaceutical companies that sponsor clinical trials, along with their software vendors, to integrate all of the clinical applications they expect a research site to use into one single platform. Acting as a neutral aggregator, connector and communicator, One Home can free up a site’s time to conduct more research and deliver patient care.

“With site capacity becoming a real challenge for the industry, we believe it is our role and responsibility to deliver a solution that brings industry stakeholders together and relieves the burden on research sites,” said Bernd Haas, senior vice president, IQVIA Digital Products and Solutions. “IQVIA One Home for Sites is the only product with a vision and scope broad enough to reverse the negative effects of technology proliferation that is plaguing sites today.”

IQVIA has taken input from more than 100 site personnel in the development of One Home to ensure that the platform provides an experience that meets their needs. IQVIA Prime Sites – clinical trial institutes or networks that are committed to long term relationships with IQVIA to improve and innovate clinical trial delivery – are currently piloting One Home to gather feedback and metrics on user experience and efficiencies gained. Additionally, IQVIA is actively engaged with dozens of clinical technology vendors and pharmaceutical companies that understand an industry-wide approach is the only way to increase site capacity and accelerate the delivery of new treatments to patients.

“There is a vast and disparate landscape of technology solutions that, as a whole, is impacting site users,” said Sharlene Carnegie, senior vice president, Platform, Medidata. “We are pleased to collaborate with IQVIA on One Home for Sites and start bridging the gap between systems to help their sites and sponsors save time and resources.” Medidata, a Dassault Systèmes brand, is one of the first companies to become a One Home for Sites partner.

“One Home is a strategic platform to which my organization is fully committed,” said Richard Staub, president, IQVIA Research & Development Solutions. “Rather than competing with individual products and platforms, it enhances sites’ productivity by aggregating clinical trial systems, and I believe that it will be incredibly valuable to the clinical research space and in the studies we run.”

The mission of the Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the creativity, innovation, hard work and success of digital health and medical technology companies, services and products around the globe. This year’s program attracted more than 4,500 nominations from all over the world.
