XR Cast, Jaunt’s first-of-its-kind, portable and B2B platform allow an easy volumetric capture and publishing of humans in AR. With this solution, Jaunt enables its partners to distribute augmented, virtual and mixed reality assets through their applications and channels using proprietary technology. The platform provides a cross-platform publishing solution where a mobile device streams the AR content. A user can then publish these assets to the mobile web, inside an AR-enabled app or to social media using the cutting-edge AR technology embedded in their mobile devices. “By leveraging XR Cast, Jaunt creates 3D selfies or holograms in real-time.
These assets can then be easily viewed in AR on mobile devices or AR/mixed-reality headsets,” mentions Mitzi Reaugh, CEO and President, Jaunt.
The other reason why XR Cast can produce a volumetric video in real time is on account of its portable technology. The portable capture stage, which has a small footprint, makes it highly mobile and is designed for on-location capture of consumers’ talent. This minimizes the need to travel to a massive capture studio or wait hours or days for the video to process. The XR platform’s algorithms are tuned to run in real-time on a single commercial available PC. With the high integrity and low bandwidth requirements, the platform enables live-streaming of volumetric content to mobile devices.
Jaunt facilitates the transformation of real human beings into AR in three steps: First, Voxelization process that registers independent point-cloud outputs from multiple different depth sensors into one common 3D scene. Second, Meshing, a process where the 3D mesh of captured subject is generated. This process allows the company to maintain the fidelity of the captured subject during the compression process. Third, Texturing, wherein the mesh is painted/ textured with the color images from high-resolution video cameras that surround the subject. This stage is critical to feature the 3D humans with rich details.
In one instance, AT&T—a modern media company that brings together advertising technology and high-speed networks to deliver a unique customer experience, needed a fun yet tangible way to demonstrate the power of 5G for its consumers. XR Cast provided a personal and engaging way to experience the power of 5G for consumers at a football match at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium. The fans were invited to perform their end-zone dances on XR Cast Capture stage; meanwhile, the audience simultaneously watched AR stream over AT&T's 5G network in real-time. The fans saw first-hand how emerging mobile networks can enable next-generation technology experiences.
Jaunt, through its full-service global production house, Jaunt Studios, and the Jaunt XR Platform, will continue to leverage AR and VR technology to demonstrate their stories in the emerging immersive age. The company looks forward to moving further into the extended reality arena with the Jaunt XR Platform at the core of its business.
