DevOps transformation constitutes a sophisticated endeavor that requires a great deal of dexterity for execution. A multitude of organizations embarking on DevOps often tend to struggle with their approach to this transformation. The prevalent uncertainties of these organizations pertaining to the right selection of tools often render them pre-mature results that seldom support their strategic goals. Moreover, even after establishing a robust DevOps landscape, organizations still struggle with traditional managed services providers whose services are largely confined to contractual agreements. This is where LAB3 comes to aid with their DevOps Scoreboard Assessment and Agile Managed services expertise, guiding organizations in venturing ahead on their IT endeavors.

LAB3 helps their clients to make the right choices early on in their DevOps transformation journey through a series of measured approaches. The company’s DevOps Assessment Scorecard is developed to deeply evaluate their client’s technical footprint and the organizational skill-set. “This helps our specialists in understanding the overall business objectives of our clients—the crucial information that helps us in making firm decisions and building strategic DevOps roadmap for our clients,” says Chris Cook, Executive Director, LAB3.

LAB3’s DevOps deployment approach refrains from clichéd methodologies of predefined architectures. The company understands the complexities of creating an end-to-end continuous delivery tool chain and the various intricacies involved in its development.
In the light of which, LAB3 has created ‘DevOps in a Box’, a robust yet modular defined architecture that leverages open source technology. The product offers a great degree of flexibility allowing suitable tools to be selected that match a client’s business objectives.

LAB3 extends this flexibility beyond contractual limitations and works as a true partner and provides them with an agile managed services offering. The company focuses on empowering its clients with the necessary tools, processes, framework, and people, enabling them to steer their own business forward. Andy Lyons, CTO, LAB3, explains, “Through our managed services we are equipping modern CIOs with all the essential ingredients to successfully run an IT firm.” Today, LAB3 has developed more than 30 managed services garnering immense success across the Australian IT landscape.

Cook cites one such scenario where LAB3 stood instrumental in successfully delivering a ‘Cloud-Only’ migration to Azure for an Australian multi-billion dollar company. As a significant step beyond the industry benchmark of ‘cloud-first’, LAB3 successfully migrated and transformed the entire client eco-system to run in Azure. Consequently, this project brought a raft of benefits and flexibility for the client, offering them complete control over their IT footprint, and everything from a virtual machine to an end user office license. The client also witnessed that their costs were not only manageable but also completely transparent with a widget based billing model that helped them to avoid the typical “bill shock.” Their critical business services that were previously running on legacy hardware now runs with full redundancy with GEO level DR capabilities.

Today, LAB3 has established their stature as a renowned name in the Australian IT landscape. Growing along this trajectory, in the coming days, the company envisions large-scale opportunities to further leverage Microsoft’s cloud-based platforms, specifically; AI and IoT. Evolving amidst a market ripe for highly unified solutions delivering unprecedented digital transformations, LAB3’s goal is to make migrating, building and running workloads in Azure a ‘code only’ affair. “There is next to nothing that can’t be automated in Azure, from deploying workloads to managing enterprise controls, like security, patching, alerting and backup policies. We hear from so many clients who have spent months and considerable money paying other partners to ‘define Azure guardrails and scaffolding recommendations’. Our approach is to have already defined those best practices as code. That way we spend our time understanding our clients’ needs and configuring them directly into our automation packages. The end result is instead of a word document, our clients have a world class working environment deployed.” concludes Lyons.
