The Taipei Computer Association which works with the aim of driving the use of analytics and opening data in academic circles, industry and public sector, has joined hands with Taiwanese government-sponsored institutions to launch the Big Data Alliance.

With great determination of improving the IT industry in Taiwan, the Taipei Computer Association has extended their helping hand to the ill-skilled workforce of Big Data by imparting the knowledge of Big Data and has planned to work with major local universities to impart more data and

information scientists. Helping in the acceleration of the Big Data services, Taiwanese universities have been fairly active in partnering with large incumbents. Last year National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in southern Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding with Japanese technology provider Futjistu which saw the two organizations partner to build out a big data analytics platform and nurture big data skills in academia.

Alliance stakeholders include National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science as well as firms like IBM, Far EasTone Telecommunications and Asus, but any data owners, analysts and domain experts are free to join the alliance. The Big Data Alliance has planned to coerce the use of analytics and open data throughout the industry and government in order to “transform and optimize services, and create business opportunities” and hopes big data can be used to improve public policy, ranging from financial management to transportation optimization and also creating a large commercial ecosystem for new applications.
