    Artificial Intelligence Transforming Cities

By Apac CIO Outlook | Thursday, January 01, 1970
    Tweet

With artificial intelligence gaining pace of late, many businesses and industries are moving towards it to bring about change in the way things work. From healthcare to education, automotive to transportation, workspace to entertainment, AI seems to be having an impact on everything.

Organizations such as Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple are working with artificial intelligence and witnessing a massive success. Of late, Uber is entering the AI zone with the hopes to change transportation with its ‘cars-as-a-service solution. Uber as of now runs a self-driving auto lab in Pittsburgh and has lately acquired Otto, a self-driving car lab in San Francisco. Ten years down the line and self-driving is sure to change the way transportation is seen now.

On the other hand, Robots delivering packages and doing menial jobs such as cleaning up offices will become a common sight in the coming years. Mobile chipmakers are already putting all the power of supercomputers into systems-on-a-chip, boosting on-board computing ability of robots.

AI has also entered the healthcare section in the form of AI-based virtual assistance, robots that perform certain critical surgeries, bionic limbs for the disabled, AI for diagnosing diseases and so on.  These help patients with immediate solutions as well as reducing physical burnout of patient and doctors. The most transformative conceivable outcomes of AI in healthcare is access to data. Though there are implementations of electronic health records, the FDA is yet to find ways to balance privacy and access to data. However, once these hurdles are crossed, AI will make everything simpler for patients and doctors.

Another interesting change will be the use of drones for deliveries of packages, food etc., thus, speeding up delivery with a much smaller carbon footprint.

AI will greatly transform cities in the years to come.
