Automation Can Improve Employee Engagement and Productivity

Apac CIO Outlook | Thursday, January 01, 1970

A recent State of the Global Workplace report by Gallup has found out that 85 percent of employees are not giving their hundred percent into their work. Although they spend eight to nine hours at their workplace, they don't contribute their best work or ideas there.

The report adds that one of the reasons behind this disengagement among employees is they spend most of their day on manual, or repetitive work that doesn’t contribute much value to their workplace or their professional growth.

However, if business experts are to be believed, automation can eradicate this lost productivity and employee disengagement as they focus on more meaningful, business-critical work. Employers can address this issue by empowering workers with the best technology and automation tools. A report titled–Automation in the Workplace 2017–revealed that automation’s possible worth to an organization is directly related to the time employees spend on monotonous tasks.

Also, automation can free up time by taking over tasks, which means employees can spend their rest of the time on creativity and innovation. Today, a lot of organizations are making their move towards automation as they believe creativity is the key to business success. A study by Forrester stated that 82 percent of business leaders believe that creativity plays a significant role in business success. It is found that organizations that discourage repetitive tasks and encourages creativity to surpass their contemporaries by driving innovation, market share and revenue growth.

Not only this, but automation can also improve visibility and create accountability across an organization.  Like for example, employees can set up automated requests to collect the reports they need to get projects done, instead of running around the people. They can also combine the reports and the information related to that project at one place so that people working on that project can refer it easily.

Similarly, instead of collecting data manually, which kills productivity, automated data collection can save time, money and also energy. Automated data is also more reliable than human collection and can help organizations to circulate it across the organization for further work swiftly.
