    SAN JOSE, CA: Cavium, a provider of semiconductor services and solutions, releases OCTEON TX series of 64-bit ARM based System-On-a-Chip (SOCs) which are apt for control plane and data plane applications in networking, security, and storage.

    The SOCs are based on 64-bit ARMv8.1 cores and consists of four product families- CN80XX, CN81XX, CN82XX and CN83XX. The OCTEON TX portfolio extends Cavium’s embedded products into control plane application areas within enterprise, data center networking and storage that require the support of comprehensive software ecosystem and virtualization features.

    The OCTEON TX portfolio has the ability to run multiple concurrent data and control planes at the same time and can also be optimized for applications ranging from security and router appliances to software-defined networking (SDN) and network-functions virtualization (NFV), service provider customer-premises equipment (CPE), storage controllers and gateways for the Internet of things (IoT).

    The OCTEON TX portfolio that includes the CN80XX and CN81XX family has one to four ARMv8.1 ThunderX cores with up to 2.2 GHz core frequency and up to 2MB of last-level cache.

     The CN82XX and CN83XX family has eight to 24 cores and up to 8MB of last-level cache. It also integrates Cavium's NitroX V security processors. The OCTEON TX portfolio supports latest security features such as a wide range of protocols that includes IPsec, SSL, TLS 1.x, DTLS and ECC Suite B.

    The advent of trends such as big data, mobility, the IoT, the cloud and the huge amounts of data transferred across the cloud and enterprise has the network being put under pressure; to be more scalable, agile, open and application-centric with the growing demands.

    “Cavium has delivered breakthrough performance for data plane and security applications with its multi-core OCTEON SOCs,” says Steve Klinger, General Manager, Infrastructure Processor Group at Cavium.   “The wide range of products in the OCTEON TX ARM 64-bit product line builds upon this success and expands the use of these products into control and embedded processing applications that leverage the fast growing ARM ecosystem and breadth of open source initiatives”.
