Dell Introduces Lync and Skype to Wise Thin Clients; Brings VDI Solution to Deploy XenDesktop

    By apacciooutlook | Friday, January 03, 2020

FREMONT, CA: Dell in its perspective to optimize communication productivity for existing and new users, introduces two new additions to its cloud client-computing portfolio. The two new solutions, Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2 and Dell Appliance for Wyse – Citrix offer quicker and cost-effective solutions for its users to deploy and run Citrix environments.

The Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2, being the latest release of its thin client software, now offers Lync 2010, Lync 2013 and the Skype for a Business client for Lync 2015 via the Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack. Dell Appliance for Wyse – Citrix, a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) appliance that simplifies and merges the server, storage and networking components required to deploy a Citrix environment into an easy-to-buy 2U(two server rack space) module that starts small and provides scale-out capabilities for up to 5,000 users with Citrix XenDesktop.

    Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2

The latest release of Dell’s thin client software has the ability to stream crisp high-definition audio/video calls in an optimized architecture. It allows workers to seamlessly participate in audio/video or audio-only calls to and from other Lync or Skype for Business users and other standards-based video desktop and conference room multipoint control unit (MCU) systems. All the audio/video processing is offloaded from the server to the end-user device or terminal, optimizing the quality of call and its impact on the server.

The features of the Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2 allow Unified Communications Connectivity via the Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack. It supports Lync Server and Client 2010 and 2013, as well as the Skype for a Business client in Lync 2015. The ThinOS 8.2 has enhanced security and encryption methods such as Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and also supports a robust 802.1x wired and wireless authentication security protocol suite. The Dell Wyse ThinOS 8.2 supports backward compatibility with previous versions of Dell Wyse thin clients and existing users.

    Dell Appliance for Wyse- Citrix

The new release of the Dell Appliance for Wyse – Citrix is capable of scaling up to 5,000 users, making it easier for smaller organizations to purchase, deploy, scale and manage with Citrix XenDesktop. The Dell Appliance for Wyse – Citrix, enables larger organizations to conduct a Citrix-based VDI proof-of-concept (PoC) or pilot environment prior to embarking on a larger-scale deployment.

The new release of the Citrix-based VDI makes it easy to plan, order, install, operate and manage the program. With the new scalability options, the solution supports up to 5,000 users. The users can be heterogeneous such as basic, advanced and professional users. The appliance can be configured with Wyse thin clients optimized for Citrix HDX and Dell ProSupport for an effective end-to-end VDI solution.

"Dell is committed to continued innovation in the desktop cloud delivery space. Enhancements to our client products as well as providing more solutions for faster and easier deployment of the data center is critical as VDI gains momentum. Specifically, customers using our leading ThinOS software can now support unified communications efficiently in partnership with Citrix. This is complemented by enhancements to our appliance offerings, making VDI deployment with Citrix easier and more cost-effective than ever." says Steve Lalla, VP, Commercial Client Software and Solutions, Dell.
