    DevOps Approach to Software Development

    Apac CIOOutlook | Tuesday, February 19, 2019
    Tweet

DevOps has become a widely established approach to software development. The combination of development and IT functions has brought several advantages in the form of better communication and greater cooperation. There has been a range of new tools and disciplines emerging to support this movement. Going forward, the landscape of DevOps is promising.

It will be excellent for the companies that show the willingness to change tracks and the agility by adopting DevOps. The technology will provide higher power and ability to companies in answering the demands of the end users. Companies need to be watchful of the trends that emerge from the industrial revolution4.0. 2019 will see a fundamental shift.

NoOps (No Operations) is gathering pace. With NoOps, the operations team will make the experience more seamless, which will be achieved with intelligent automation that will enable self-service, empower business, and create transparency in the operation team, which will allow the companies to consume IT resources directly and without waiting-increasing productivity of all the agencies in the process. For instance, financial services firms are quickly moving toward a Platform-as-a-Service model that works on the NoOps model.

Key DevOps companies: XpoLog, Splunk, SOFTwarfare

The dramatic rise of SaaS model has made data abundant. Consequently, companies are increasingly using metrics to gain insights. That is an area which is ripe for AI and ML. Applying ML to the software delivery lifecycle will allow organizations to analyze and understand where bottlenecks are likely to occur in the future, which will allow for predictive suggestions to streamline and optimize delivery accordingly. AI and data science experts will be working much more closely with DevOps teams in 2019 to deliver increased efficiencies and greater insights to the software delivery and testing process.

The other concern is security, which can be solved with DevSecOps, which is about injecting security first in the life cycle of application development. This leads to reduction in vulnerabilities and bringing security closer to IT and business objectives. Such a model assumes everyone is responsible for the safety, and hence, there will be less noise and dilemma on who did what and what went wrong.

As DevOps practice moves into 2019, it is essential to emphasize that collaboration and communication of both software developers and IT professionals will be at the heart of this shift.
