Manufacturing industries using new technologies experience accelerated productivity and competitive advantages by bringing new and better products to consumers.

FREMONT, CA: Manufacturers use new technologies to boost their productivity and build competitive advantages. Historically, the major manufacturing evolutions have all been linked to technological change, from the industrial revolution till Industry 4.0. As manufacturing has arrived in this fourth industrial revolution, product-based businesses must consider how technology evolution will improve their productivity. For manufacturers, technology is any tool enabling production and maximising workers' effort. Technology elevates manufacturing productivity in various manufacturing areas.

    Efficient Workflows with Automation

Technology simplifies tasks by automating them, offering significant advantages for manufacturers. This includes scanning barcodes instead of typing product codes into a spreadsheet, eliminating errors and freeing employees’ time for more value-adding activities rather than work adding little or no value. It also sets up reorder points for stock items that are automatically reordered by inventory management software after they are depleted to a certain level. Repetitive and precise work such as welding, spray painting, or polishing is done by robots, as is common in the automotive industry.

    Connecting the Workforce

To follow valuable sales opportunities, it is important to know crucial information, such as how much stock was available in the warehouse, a customer's order history, or product lead times. Productive employees need access to business information and their teams. Digital tools help employees stay connected, and cloud-based inventory management software enables access to inventory, sales, and purchase information even when key staff are off-site.

    Increasing Efficiency

Searching through spreadsheets and large data sets for the needed information is time-consuming. Investing in the right technology keeps business information organised and accessible so managers and employees can quickly find what they need and carry on with value-added tasks. Storehouses are often potential inefficiencies. Technology saves downtime and costs. Warehouse workers can observe data in real-time, use digital pick lists, steer the warehouse quickly, track a product throughout its journey, and more.

    Improves Quality Assurance

Manufacturing rework can result in human error, machine faults improperly implemented design changes or even damage in transit. In such situations, manufacturers should take time to repair products or consider them waste.

However, industry 4.0 has vastly improved quality assurance, now known as quality 4.0. Technologies like cloud-based QMS apps and robots inspecting products for faults are more efficient and affordable than relying on installed solutions or manual inspections. Cloud-based software is a single source for quality data and standard operating procedures. This reduces miscommunication and simplifies data management.

Manufacturing is amidst a profound transformative period with productivity gains powered by technology. Small and medium-sized manufacturers achieve access to innovations previously available only to their heavily capitalised enterprise competitors, scaling up the playing field and bringing new and better products to consumers.
