Gamification is an approach that integrates the already existing website or an enterprise application or an online community with game mechanics into it to motivate visitor participation, engagement, and loyalty. Gamification takes the data-driven techniques that game designers use to engage players and apply them to non-game experiences to motivate actions that add value to businesses.

In today's e-learning world, integrated gamification provides a new learning experience and high-level user engagement. Employee engagement and motivation is improved by rewarding with points or badges through online learning programs.

Gamification elements can be incorporated into the learning content by organizing the learning content in levels and keeping track of the employees’ learning progress. The gateway can be added to each level of learning programs. The option to mention the difficulty level of certain elements must be present. Also, the learners should be allowed to choose the specific learning program according to their choice of interest and help other learners through an online community.

In content gamification, the change in the learning content to a game is done while in structural gamification the content remains the same, but the way it is presented gives a rather gamified experience.

While gamification is about the game mechanics in a non-game context that drives learning outcomes, game-based learning is different. The basic idea of game-based learning is to teach learners through repetition and failure. The learning is interactive and not passive. The knowledge acquiring from playing games is applied as new concepts in game-based learning.

The simulation software shows the errors on the screen about situation learners in the workplace. By noting such type of errors, companies develop learner games. Such type of learning is more productive than attending lectures and reading content. Game-based learning applications can draw the attention of the learners into virtual environments that look and feel familiar and relevant.

Digital designing specializes in custom learning solutions that incorporate game-based learning and gamification. These approaches lead to an increase in positive behavior changes and successful knowledge retention of the employees when compared to the traditional training methods. Learning through games provides a safe environment for failure. Failing in the environment of the game can allow a user to try again and learn from the mistakes without any loss or damage.
