Equinix, a digital infrastructure company, has announced its expansion to Indonesia with plans for an approximately USD 74 million International Business Exchange data centre in the heart of Jakarta.

    FREMONT, CA:
An estimated USD 74 million International Business Exchange data centre is being planned for the centre of Jakarta by the digital infrastructure company Equinix in order to attain the growing demand for the digital services necessary to power today's enterprises.

Through this development, Equinix will make it possible for Indonesian companies and foreign companies with a presence in Indonesia to use its dependable platform to link and connect the basic infrastructure that underpins their companies.

Indonesia has become Southeast Asia's largest digital economy in terms of value because of growing company digitization and a sizable population with advanced digital skills. It is therefore anticipated that it will serve as a major centre of interconnection in the area.

With the establishment of cloud regions in Indonesia by major cloud service providers, including Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud, the nation is expected to overtake Singapore as Southeast Asia's second-largest public cloud market. Together, these trends highlight the need for more digital services and data centre space in Indonesia.

IBX data centre in Jakarta will expand Equinix's vast global network of interconnected data centres into a strategically significant, high-growth market. Equinox's presence in Indonesia enables us to help international enterprises to access the growing Indonesian digital economy and provide digital infrastructure to local businesses to exploit development prospects abroad, says Jeremy Deutsch, President, Asia-Pacific, Equinix.

When fully constructed, the eight-story building, which is projected to offer more than 1,600 cabinets and more than 5,300 square metres of collocation space, is expected to be operational by the second half of 2024. The new IBX data centre will offer Indonesian firms and foreign businesses operating in Indonesia the digital infrastructure and lively ecosystems for top performance. It is situated in Jakarta's Central Business District and close to key internet exchanges.

The building will be built with sustainability in mind, utilising cutting-edge tools like cool arrays to help Indonesian firms achieve their economic and environmental objectives. This is a component of Equinix's Future First strategy, emphasising the firm's dedication to promoting a greener digital economy.

The Indonesian government's measures for digital transformation are in line with Equinix's expansion to Jakarta, which will further the nation's efforts to build out its digital infrastructure in accordance with the objectives outlined in the Indonesia Digital Roadmap 2021–2024.

Equinix's platform currently covers 32 nations on a global scale. The local and international business community, cloud and IT service providers, and network service providers will all be able to conduct business through this new data centre in Jakarta. Including this most recent announcement, Equinix is working on 50 significant projects in 35 metro areas across 22 countries, including the construction of new data centres in Dublin, Montréal, New York, Paris, and Warsaw. Most recently, Equinix expanded into Chile and Peru with five IBX data centres, with an estimated enterprise value of USD 735 million.
