BEAVERTON, OR: Gen-Z Consortium, an alliance of computer industry companies, announces to create new data access technology for flexible and high performance memory semantic fabric. The alliance members include AMD, ARM, Cavium Inc., Cray, Dell EMC, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Huawei, IBM, IDT, Lenovo, Mellanox Technologies, Micron, Microsemi, Red Hat, Samsung, Seagate, SK hynix, Western Digital Corporation, and Xilinx.

    Consortium’s Mission

The consortium aims to provide an open ecosystem where industry and end users work together to promote adoption, innovation and choice for achieving solutions the enterprise needs.

    New Offering

Gen-Z is capable of scaling from tens to several hundred Gb/s of bandwidth with low latency. It further provides real time analytics and enables data centric computing for advanced workloads and technologies. The consortium can be deployed in any systems without performing any operational or middleware software changes.

"The vision behind Gen-Z is to solve the growing challenges associated with processing and analyzing huge amounts of data in real time while avoiding today's system bottlenecks," says Ron Noblett, Vice President of the Advanced Architecture Development CTO Group at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), wrote in a post on the company blog. "The idea is to get back to the most basic functions that move data from one location to another. Gen-Z aims to get any device to communicate with any other device as if it were communicating with its own local memory using simple commands. Thus, we refer to it as a 'memory semantic protocol.' You can connect vast numbers of components together in the same fabric and each can get equal access to the data."
