FREMONT, CA: To enable users to view authenticated government-issued papers via the app, Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has announced that it is integrating India's online document storage provider DigiLocker with the Files app for Android.
Google announced its collaboration with the Indian government to deploy the DigiLocker integration within the Files app at the annual Google for India conference. The search engine giant also disclosed a machine learning-based model that will assist in classifying and arranging vital documents, such as official papers and government identification cards.
The company anticipates that DigiLocker's integration and partnership on Android will provide smoother and ubiquitous access to digital documents for all users safely and securely. DigiLocker has more than 137 million active users. The service has more than 2,300 issuers who have produced more than 5.6 billion documents to date.
In March, DigiLocker's user base topped 100 million. To access, scan, and store government-issued papers, it makes use of APIs. When users will be able to use the integration is not yet exactly known by Google. Additionally, it made no mention of when or if the experience would be made accessible for iOS.
Google also unveiled AI-driven enhancements for search at the eighth annual conference, as well as an AI feature for Google Lens that would enable users to read medical professionals' handwriting. Google also added the Courses tool to YouTube to give content creators who are creating educational videos more ways to monetize their work.
