FREMONT, CA: The Internet of Things (IoT) business unit of HCL Technologies, IoT WoRKS by HCL, platforms ‘Surgical Kit Track & Trace Solution’, its healthcare IoT. The solution reduces inventory costs and increases visibility via real time location including the status of its content. This is an initiative to develop IoT solutions and platforms for clients, delivering innovation and measurable business outcomes.

Surgical Kit Track & Trace Solution is an addition to IoT WoRKS by HCL platforms and solutions for healthcare and life sciences such as Remote Patient Monitoring, Ageing in Place, Medical Devices – Remote Monitoring & Servicing and Surgical Kit Track and Trace. The solutionis platform agnostic and enables GPS–based kit tracking and tracing. It improves operational efficiency across several functions for the equipment provider as well as the healthcare providers.

HCL used connected devices to help hospitals track the location and status of their kits, so they could keep better records on their inventory and eliminate the risk of unsterilized instruments. This solution uses a sensor that can withstand high temperature while sterilizing, wireless and sensor-based instrument.  The wireless and passive infrared sensors in it offer accurate surgical kit usage tracking. It has automated inventory replenishment of kits, provides fully automated record keeping and eliminates the risks of unsterilized instruments being used by facilitating control.

Due to the significant growth in the global healthcare IoT market, a lot of research has been made on this. According to P&S Market Research, the increasing demand for advanced healthcare information system, and growing prevalence of chronic and lifestyle associated diseases are the major reasons behind this growth. MarketsandMarkets estimates the global IoT market in healthcare to grow from USD 32.5 Billion in 2015 to USD 163.2 Billion by 2020, at a CAGR of 38.1 percent.
