Information technology is affecting nearly every industry today, from transportation to manufacturing to education. The healthcare sector has undergone a significant transformation as a result of technological advancements. Information technology is transforming the healthcare sector by leaps and bounds, from remotely checking in patients and reviewing their medical records to digitally forwarding blood test reports to patients. According to experts, the healthcare information technology market is expected to hit USD 390.7 billion by the end of 2024.

While information technology refers to using computers, telecommunications, and other technologies to store, retrieve, and exchange data, health information technology refers to the safe management of healthrelated data using technology.

E-prescriptions, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), and other technology resources that help patients achieve health goals like controlling blood sugar levels or stopping smoking are the most popular examples of healthcare information technology. More precise EHRs/EMRs have been made possible by advances in information technology, allowing patients to gain fast and easy access to different healthcare facilities. Furthermore, it has provided patients more control over their wellbeing through various mobile apps and information channels. The primary goal of healthcare information technology is to protect patient privacy while optimizing treatment. Medical professionals may use HIT to enhance not just their patient treatment but also their contact with them.

Significance of Healthcare Information Technology Implementing information technology in healthcare is to improve people's overall health by enhancing the quality of treatment they receive. The importance of healthcare information technology can be summed up as follows:

Assists in the delivery of more reliable, actionable, and open information about a patient's health that can be tailored to meet the person's needs.

Allows for clearer and quicker decisions about health risks that impact both individuals and the general public. Aids in decision-making by facilitating contact between patients and healthcare professionals.

Helps in the creation of social support networks for both patients and healthcare professionals. Patients and the general public are more mindful of health-related issues, which can contribute to positive outcomes.
