Telehealth enables providers to continue providing quality care to patients without the need for them to visit regularly. With the right software in place, providers are capable of interacting with the patient’s chart, prescription processing, scheduling, and more just as they would in person.

FREMONT, CA: WHO has defined telehealth as the use of virtual technology and telecommunications to provide health care outside of traditional health-care facilities. The sudden eruption of the coronavirus has prompted the rapid development of telehealth technology to help patients.

Let us look at the benefits of using telehealth technology during public health emergencies:

    Continue Providing Care

Telehealth enables providers to continue providing quality care to patients without the need for them to visit regularly. With the right software in place, providers are capable of interacting with the patient’s chart, prescription processing, scheduling, and more just as they would in person.

Reduced Risk of Spreading the Virus

People who are infected with the virus would show symptoms within two weeks after they had come in contact with it. Even if patients are not showing any sign of COVID-19, telehealth is able to eliminate the risk of spreading it to others. This tool makes providing care safer for everyone involved by removing live in-person interaction. By interacting through video communication technology, the virus can not spread from the patient to others.

    Patient Engagement

Social distancing is the only way to stop the virus from spreading. Hence, people are being encouraged to practice social distancing during this time. Some states have taken measures such as complete lockdown and closing all non-essential businesses during this time. This can be a problematic time for patients to address different areas of their health. Telehealth provides an outlet for patients to continue taking medical care while still practicing social distancing.

    Billing for Services

Billing can be challenging because of the pandemic. However, this tool allows providers to continue billing for regularly scheduled visits. The main thing they need to keep track of is that medical coding with a video is different from a traditional visit.
