Industrial Surveillance Made Easy with Automated Drones

By Apac CIO Outlook | Monday, November 04, 2019

FREMONT, CA – Industries companies face a plethora of security challenges, often exacerbated by the failure of incomplete security solutions. The lack of robust measures has often led to substantial monitory losses, production slowdown, equipment failure, as well as human casualties. However, the emergence of automation has brought promising innovation in industrial security.

The utilization of automated drone technology has revolutionized industrial security, facilitating effective routine, on-demand, and emergency responses. Automated drones can launch and land without human intervention, and their quick data capture and transmission abilities make them ideal for routine surveillance missions. Several state-of-the-art drone systems also possess automated equipment and battery replacement capabilities.

The traditional CCTV surveillance employed for industrial monitoring is prone to blind spots, which offer pitfalls and vulnerabilities to security measures. However, the dynamic nature of automated drones can assist the industrial organizations in overcoming the weakness of CCTV systems. Drones can easily maneuver in narrow spaces and provide a comprehensive aerial view at multiple angles.

The automated industrial drones can also be equipped with thermal imaging sensors, which will enable the industries to keep watch over poorly lit areas. They offer consistent imaging through day or night, smoke and fog, and can even zoom in on long-range threats. Advanced drones can automatically switch between active surveillance to thermal imaging according to the requirements.

The intruder tracking feature of the surveillance drones enables the security personnel to track the movement of the intruders and detect hidden weaponry. It equips the staff with the necessary awareness to make informed decisions when entering a potentially risky situation. It also helps them in taking precautionary measures such as evacuating employees, shutting down equipment, and sending alerts to the authorities.

The threats to the security personnel increase day by day, what with the rising theft, vandalism, sabotage, espionage, terrorism, and so on.  Hence, the hiring organizations are also responsible for providing them with up to date information and awareness throughout the day, to safeguard not only their employees but also their assets. Leveraging automated drones will eliminate the need to send the security personnel into areas with limited visibility. It will enable them to assess the situation and track the movements of intruders. Since drones are built to carry out tasks that would otherwise put human life in danger, it is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment.
