With today’s technology, simulation systems can very easily be confused with the real deal. At the sharp edge of this sword is L3 MAPPS, a Canada-based control and simulation solution provider has launched Orchid Immersive Experience (Orchid IX), the latest display technology for accurate 3D immersion without the use of VR headsets.

Orchid IX makes 3D content more engaging at a near-retinal resolution in an interactive environment. Orchid IX is available in three formats. A single-user Immersive Workstation, a three-user Immersive Theater, and a six-to-ten person Immersive Auditorium. The technology supports realistic asset visualizations for planning and training on ships, submarines and power plants including refurbishment, radiation worker training and decommissioning. The product is available for shipbuilders, engineers, operators of naval vessels, architects, project managers, commercial marine vessels, power plants, and innovation and training centers, and more. Orchid IX will help project teams to increase output, reduce project risks, and improve project outcomes by simplifying the design and reviewing Building Information Modeling (BIM). Furthermore, Orchid IX will facilitate finalization of designs by enabling virtual visits of high-value new build projects.

Rangesh Kasturi, Interim President of L3’s new Maritime International business division, said, “As soon as we saw this cool technology, we knew we could offer several benefits to our customers seeking advanced visualization solutions in mission-critical applications. We partnered with a local innovator; Imagine 4D, to make Orchid IX available to the world.”

With a focus on user-friendliness and being process sensitive, the company strives to make its operations more efficient at lower costs while still providing the best-in-class solutions that customers have now come to expect from L3 MAPPS. “Our focus is on making the user experience easy. Even though we develop complex and detailed simulations, our customers are fully capable of modifying and further upgrading their simulators," explains Michael Chatlani, Vice President of L3 MAPPS. L3 MAPPS has already established itself as a leader in the simulation industry with a strong international presence and will continue with its geographic expansion.
