FREMONT, CA: Microsoft announces advanced analytics platform, Microsoft R Server, based on open source Programming language R for big data markets. The server offers the choice of flexibility in analyzing data at scale and building intelligent apps discovering valuable insights across businesses.

The platform works on Windows, Linux, Hadoop and Teradata, and is available on the Microsoft Development Network and through Microsoft’s DreamSpark educational program. The latest announcement from the company will allow students, educators and organizations to access enterprise level big data analytics capabilities.

Microsoft R Server is the cost-effective big data analytics platform that supports a variety of big data statistics, predictive modeling and machine learning

capabilities compatible with R language. It offers high performance, scalability and supports enterprise-capable analytics and other features such as exploratory data analysis, model building and model deployment.

Microsoft R server platform supports systems from workstations to clusters and grids by allowing the users to run R scripts in a high performance, parallel architecture. With big data computation and data management facilities, the server accelerates traditional statistical analysis. The platform offers high scalability by deploying advanced, R based analytics in Hadoop and Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW). R users can explore, model and predict in scale with Revolution R Enterprise. It enables organizations to improve performance of each department with the valuable insights offered by analytics.

R is a programming language and software environment used by statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis. It is an interpreted language and users access it through a command-line interpreter. It also operates as a general matrix toolbox.

Microsoft acquired Revolution Analytics, a provider of Revolution R enterprise (RRE) product in which R Server is based. Microsoft renamed the software R Server in Linux, Hadoop and Teradata versions, but retained RRE name in the Windows version software.
