FREMONT, CA: NetApp, a provider of network storage services and solutions, announces the release of ONTAP 9 operating system, the enterprise data management software by NetApp. The software incorporates flash, cloud and software defined architecture to provide customers with a next-generation Data Fabric foundation, across on-premises and cloud resources, to enable simple and flexible enterprise data management.
Flash Optimized
The ONTAP 9 software is flash optimized with improved performance and capacity utilization. NetApp is also providing 15 TB solid state drives (SSDs), which are 50 percent bigger than those present in the current market.
NetApp also announces FlashAdvantage 3-4-5 program, which promises an efficiency reduction of 4:1. The company's focus on technology has increased the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of flash adoption.
Also including a new inline data compaction, the NetApp all-flash systems allow more data to be fitted into smaller footprints, reducing costs of flash adoption as compared to traditional compression, deduplication and hard-disk drive based systems.
The ONTAP 9 software includes benefits such as simplicity, flexibility and security. The centrally-managed software can be implemented to function in as quickly as 10 minutes for immediate protection. It also offers data services across general purpose server hardware deployment, alongside other NetApp systems, converged infrastructure, third-party arrays, next-to-the-cloud systems, and the cloud. Security against drive failures can be managed, using RAID protection, expanded storage encryption and compliance.
ONTAP 9 software offers three options to help meet user requirements: ONTAP 9 is suited for general on-premises enterprise use; ONTAP Cloud provides data management in the cloud; and ONTAP Select offers a software only data management solution.
“Customers struggling to add flash and cloud capabilities see ONTAP 9 as a powerful consolidation stress reliever that can be deployed with fewer skilled IT resources ,” says Lee Caswell, vice president, Product, Solutions and Services Marketing at NetApp. “ONTAP 9 delivers real economic value that reduces the cost of flash, introduces a cost-effective software consumption model, and standardizes data management across disk, flash and cloud resources. With ONTAP 9, we are helping customers and partners convert our feature innovations to business value.”
