Sustainable IT and value stream management are highlighted as new interest areas for quality teams in the main trends and advancements in quality engineering and testing (QE&T).

FREMONT, CA:The 14th edition of the World Quality Report, released by Micro Focus, Capgemini, and Sogeti, highlights sustainable IT and value stream management as new areas of interest for quality teams while examining the major trends and advancements in quality engineering and testing (QE&T).

The report claims that there is a lot of hope for the future effects of new technologies like blockchain, the metaverse, and other Web 3.0 applications. The new topics included in this year's study included sustainability. The research found that even though the role of quality in sustainable IT is still developing, 72 per cent of organisations believe that QE&T could help with sustainable IT.

As part of their sustainable IT plans, respondents are hopeful about the advantages of green engineering. According to 47 per cent of respondents, greater brand value is the most significant benefit, closely followed by increased customer loyalty (46 per cent). The survey also highlighted that businesses are increasingly turning to QE&T to support the implementation and success of cutting-edge technologies like blockchain and Web 3.0, as well as to handle related issues with user experience, time to market, security, and cost.

To ensure a smooth experience for end users, new technology needs to be tested differently than it was in the past, with a different methodology, types of testing, and quality validation.

In addition, 96 per cent of respondents think that without a strong plan for developing technologies, businesses would be at medium to high risk of cyberattacks. The significance of modifying cybersecurity methods to fend off the threat of cyberattacks also came from the research due to the exponential rate of technological progress.

Although more individuals are becoming aware of the hazards of using new technology, the quality assurance function rapidly evolves from simple testing to real quality engineering methods. For instance, 90 per cent of respondents agreed that businesses would incur higher expenses if they deployed new technological solutions without a QE&T plan, and 88 per cent said they were at a medium to high risk of losing market share to a rival.

Strong data validation capabilities can increase decision-making, efficiency, and bottom-line profits, it is universally acknowledged (89 per cent). Only 20 per cent of respondents have an enterprise-wide test data provisioning plan that is completely executed, despite the fact that test data management (TDM) is an essential component of the software testing life cycle.

Implementing an effective data validation strategy is a severe barrier for many organisations; 42 per cent of respondents stated it takes a lot of effort, and 47 per cent said having numerous complicated databases is difficult in and of itself. Agile development and digital transformation are becoming increasingly recognised as important enablers of additional IT investment.

Additionally, it is acknowledged that maximising the benefits of the DevOps transformation requires incorporating QE&T at each level of product development. According to the study, organisations that use agile development claim significant gains. On-time delivery was regarded as the biggest gain by 64 per cent of respondents.

Another significant benefit was the decreased cost of quality (62 per cent), which was closely followed by enhanced customer satisfaction (61 per cent).

Organisations, however, have difficulty implementing agile development across packaged apps and business systems. This is because creating a single backlog from enterprise resource planning (ERP) processes and end-to-end business procedures is difficult in practice.

The only global study that examines trends in testing and application quality is the World Quality Report. This year's edition surveyed more than 1,750 senior executives from 32 countries and ten industries to track and analyse the most important trends and advancements in quality engineering and testing. More than 15 senior executives from diverse Fortune 500 companies who took part in in-depth interviews on these subjects provide commentary, examples, and best practices to support the expert results.

With a detailed examination of how new technologies are altering organisations' quality requirements and procedures, the World Quality Report offers valuable insight into the state of IT now and its future. The results from this year show how quality engineering and testing account for the fact that change is ongoing and that organisations need to be adaptive, flexible, and responsive in order to face this challenge and achieve optimal business performance. According to Rohit de Souza, senior vice president of Micro Focus, organisations are also concentrating on creating value for their clients and users.

The Capgemini Group's Mark Buenen continues that Recent years have seen exceptional acceleration for digital platforms and overall applications modernisation. At the same time, the situation for businesses has never been more complex due to issues with the supply chain, cybersecurity dangers, and the continuous skills shortage. In turn, a company's ability to continue being flexible, responsive, and adaptive is based on investments in strong quality assurance and engineering. By digging a little further, they can witness that this important task has a real bearing on the success of the company as a whole, including profitability and sustainability.
