THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING
Leading MRO service provider, SR Technics, has partnered with New Zealand-based Invert Robotics, a firm that designs and develops robotic non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies, to implement an innovative robotics technology solution to enhance its aircraft maintenance inspections.
Developed by Invert Robotics, the robot employs a patented mechanism that explores the airframe surface to assess the essential maintenance needs. With a high-resolution inspection camera, the robot can record and transmit video images to a ground-based screen, which can then be analyzed.
The use of this innovative solution enables efficient visual inspections for the tarmac and in the hangar. Also, the inspection photos can be used for detailed repair assessments and as proof of current state of the aircraft for the future.
The mechanical inspections can help reduce the inspection time. The robot's capabilities can be further improved by adding functions such as ultra-sound and thermographic testing which will allow the robots to perform labor-intensive and complex maintenance inspection processes. Freeing up skilled aircraft engineers to manage more complex tasks helps to speed the process, and reducing the cost of the overall maintenance process.
