It has been approximately two decades since movie makers, sci-fi authors, scientists, and futurists have been predicting the catastrophic changes or apocalypse that will escalate with the prevalence of artificial intelligence. As of now, no such impact has been made by AI, but it is gradually growing in prominence in our day-to-day life. It has been used by many technological marvels such as intelligent sensors that help in clicking perfect pictures and automatic parking features for cars and other heavy vehicles. Additionally, the use of personal assistants in smart phones is also becoming common, which at times is frustrating.
Scientists are yet to develop robots that possess self-awareness, usually the ones we see in movies, particularly 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars. AI technologies have been used in a wide range of applications and have been showing their impact slowly. AI is slated to make a bigger impact in the field of education bringing in big changes.
It is unlikely that within the next decade we will be witnessing humanoid robots taking up the roles of teachers or professors. However, there are several projects made at businesses and offices that make use of computer intelligence, helping both students and teachers gain better educational experience. Below are some of the ways AI will shape and define the future of education.
• AI possesses the power of automation with regard to basic activities in education. For example, grading.
• Students can adopt the educational software.
• AI can point out the flaws and bridge the gaps between teachers and students, and can also help in improving the syllabus by suggesting the necessary changes.
• AI can offer tutoring programs to help students in subjects like Mathematics. Students and educators can interact and exchange information, which alters the role played by teachers.
