Unlike traditional ineffective utility meters that are limited only to displaying energy used, smart meter technology is creating a buzz among owners for its myriad benefits. Any issue with the traditional meter leaves the provider with no option but to eventually speculate the energy usage for generating the bill.
Smart meters empower an individual to not only view the energy used but give them a comprehensive view of energy in terms of accuracy of the bill relative to energy spend, energy used in kilowatts, and also where energy is being consumed more, allowing the owner a complete control over energy consumption.
While many owners are already singing praises of the benefits they receive after having bought smart meters, some have been left disappointed as they feel replacing analog meters with digital ones has made no change in their lives. While the weight is more on its utility benefits (for convenience, transparency, and reliability) than downside, one-third of surveyed owners, according to an online survey, have given positive feedback on the adoption of digital meters. A smart meter comes embedded with a tiny display atop that resembles a smartphone display. On the flipside, the owner may experience a disruption in the meter if the network or mobile signal is weak in the given locality—a chief drawback of smart meters.
Energy bills currently rely on meter readings that are installed by owners themselves; however, unlike smart meters, the traditional meters render inaccurate readings.
