    Smart Technology for Urban Mobility

By Apac CIO Outlook | Tuesday, May 14, 2019
    Tweet

Smart Nation is a technological transformation initiative in Singapore. From the time it was started in late 2014, progress has been made with the application of digital and smart solutions to provide their citizens and businesses with improved services. The companies have also reacted innovatively to the government, enabling it to become more integrated and responsive in its Smart Nation and Digital Government strategy processes.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) will include the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) consisting of the Digital Government of the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Department for Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), and the Smart Nation Program Office (SNPO). In cooperation with other government agencies, industry and the public, SNDGO uses digital and smart technology to enhance public life in key areas. Urban mobility is one of these key areas. To better manage their bus fleets, to reduce the number of people, and to improve speed, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) uses data analysis. The SNDGG will work with LTA to continue exploiting existing and emerging technologies to improve public transportation, improve urban logistics, and decrease congestion to enhance the shuttle experience.

To increase economic value and catalyze innovation among companies and citizens, SNDGG is developing the digital enabler and platforms for Smart Nation. The SNDGG will build on GovTech's ongoing efforts to improve data sharing through the Singapore Monetary Authority to encourage electronic payments. In addition, the SNDGG will develop a national digital identity framework to facilitate digital transactions and the national sensor communication backbone to support IoT applications used by agencies to fulfill their tasks. They seek to build a lively economy with good opportunities for Singaporeans that remains attractive to foreign investment. It digitizes industries in order to improve business efficiency and create new jobs, and opportunities. The digital economy action framework provides a guide that helps their companies and employees to prepare for the possibilities of a digital economy and to embrace them.

The Smart Nation and Digital government Office (SNDGO) plans and prioritizes key smart nation projects, promotes digital government transformation, builds public sector long-standing capabilities and promotes public and industry adoption, and a collective approach to the development of the smart nation.
