The shift to cloud computing is the disruptive change that IT departments now face as the industry continues to grow and mature. Businesses have a unique opportunity to achieve tremendous cost savings and revenue growth with cloud computing. Innovative enterprises continue to reinvent themselves in their markets by taking advantage of the cloud computing revolution. Firms that don’t make use of this opportunity will find themselves outdated or perhaps soon cease to be profitable. The value and benefits of cloud computing are expected to evolve, and vendors are increasing the number of services they provide.

Firms work with vast amounts of data on a daily basis, and this data needs to be stored somewhere. Unfortunately building and maintaining the hardware necessary to store this much quantity of data is not cost effective. Not only that, but it can be expensive to manage servers, and a data center can take a large part of space that could be used for other purposes. With the cloud, firms use a virtual server where everything can be stored off-premise. It still uses actual servers, but companies access the data stored inside through the internet.

One of the most advertised qualities of cloud computing is its pay as you use a pricing model in which enterprises only pay for the cloud resources they use rather than a flat rate pay. This model promotes cost efficiency as there is no wastage of money on resources they don’t use. It fits perfectly for businesses of any scale because of its flexibility. Enterprises using a cloud deployment will have the ability to move their traditional workflows onto the cloud and take advantage of the resources and convenience the cloud provides.

The challenge of adopting cloud solutions is knowing what to keep in the premise and what to perform in the cloud. The cloud may be capable of performing a lot of tasks, but it doesn’t mean that an enterprise should use it for everything. It may be worth employing staff to deploy the new cloud solution by considering the advantages and disadvantages of performing each task in the cloud. Though the cloud offers a multitude of services for businesses, firms can tailor their cloud solutions to match their needs.
