Digital signage is constantly gaining grounds with firms increasingly trusting digital platforms for advertisements and as a means of customer interaction. Screens are getting wider and slimmer. LCD screens are also gaining in terms of resolution and image quality. From the above trends, it’s clear that technology will play a major role in shaping the future of digital signage. Here are the major technological trends that will drive the future of digital signage.

    Multi-Touch Screens

Firms have realized the growing importance of customer interaction and are increasingly spending the same. For instance, businesses are incorporating multi touch screens that will allow one or more people to interact with the content displayed on the digital signage platforms. Thus, such a setup allows multiple interactions in parallel. Here are significant variations present in the touch screen capabilities.

    Capacitive Touch Technology

Sensor technology present in the screens identify the location of the current flow, which is interpreted as a touch event. The most popular example of capacitive touch is found in tablets and mobile phones. Although it's a precise technology, the target environment needs to be protected from the external environment, such as weather.

    Infrared Technology

Infrared technology uses a grid of invisible infrared light throughout the LED/LCD screen. As an object comes in contact with the screen, the infrared light gets interrupted. The phenomenon is registered as a touch. A significant difference between capacitive touch and infrared technology is that infrared enabled touch can be triggered by any material.

    Big Data Analytics

Conventionally, the brands relied on television and radio for most of their ad campaigns. There was no way of knowing the impact of the ads on customer engagement. However, digital signage allows the marketers to employ smart billboards that will track the number of people walking past the digital signage and the number of people who are trying to engage with the content. Technologies such as facial recognition and eye-tracking can also be deployed to track the part of signage attracting the most attention.

With rapidly evolving technology, digital signage will emerge as one of the most effective business communication platforms. Other technologies, such as display and big data evolution, will further add to the growing capabilities of digital signage.
