FREMONT, CA: VMware announces the availability of built-in support for Kubernetes in VMware Photon Platform to enable IT operations teams to deliver Kubernetes as a Service to development teams. VMware Photon Platform is an enterprise cloud infrastructure platform for cloud-native applications. The platform also features new networking and storage services powered by VMware NSX and VMware Virtual SAN, respectively.
VMware NSX is the network virtualization platform for the software-defined data centre which helps move workloads seamlessly while enabling network micro-segmentation. This will provide switching and routing services and offer a complete set of logical networking elements and services. On the other hand, VMware Virtual SAN is the software powering Hyper-Converged Infrastructure solutions which reduces TCOby 50 percent.
The Photon Platform automates IT infrastructure provisioning and allows businesses to focus on their development efforts versus building, operating and supporting a custom solution. It helps IT operations teams divide the workload for developers and improves security with the help of Kubernetes as a Service. The hyper-converged infrastructure model of Photon Platform offers a simplified hardware architecture enabling customers to scale-out their server and storage resources incrementally while connecting to external NAS and SAN arrays. The block storage feature in the platform offers flexible, programmable and constant storage for containerized and cloud-native applications. This helps expand storage capacity.
"VMware Photon Platform takes a major step forward by empowering IT teams to deliver, secure and operate the modern services that development teams require with the infrastructure automation demanded by today's leading enterprise organizations," says Paul Fazzone, Vice President and General Manager, Cloud-Native Applications Business Unit, VMware. "Based on the industry-leading hypervisor, network virtualization and hyper-converged storage solutions, VMware Photon Platform offers customers unprecedented business speed and agility to deliver innovative software solutions to market quicker."
