    Wearables: Mirror of Tomorrow's Technology

    Apac CIOOutlook | Thursday, January 01, 1970
    Tweet

As one of the trending buzzwords of the moment associated with IoT- wearable technology continues to break barriers with recent developments in the field, marking an impact on enterprises spanning marketing, app development, and retail. Today, wearables are available that can track footsteps, calories burned, heart rate, and even critical information like blood glucose levels for people with diabetes.

Wearable tech is gradually evolving from fitness bands to trackers and glasses with developments ranging from Fitbit, the Pebble watch, Google glass headsets, to the forthcoming iWatch, ultimately helping in the effective paradigm shift towards a tech-powered business world.

From improving training and recovery in areas from elite sports to assisting in the monitoring and treatment of various conditions in healthcare, every industry is incorporating wearables either the ones that provide information like Google Glass and smartwatches, or those that collect information like Fitbit.

The next generation of wearables is going towards being more empathic with the end user, easily accessible, fashionable, and less visible. With an aim to provide customized information and context-based suggestions by combining the two primary functions of collecting personal data and then analyzing it against various other data sets, the future of wearables is driving for is seamless integration.

For wearable technology, augmented-reality glasses are likely to be the most useful, allowing students to record lessons for playback later and innovations like 3D printing will revolutionize the way people get their glasses. With the latest VR technology, students will be able to take virtual field trips using VR headsets. As the wearable technology trend continues to explode exponentially with more business-centric wearables, new opportunities for development, marketing, and labor will enter the industries with cost-effectiveness being the significant aspect of the economic impact.
