It is essential for organizations to understand the barriers that obstruct the implementation of technology into instruction.
FREMONT, CA: Some of the significant challenges that act as a setback to the adoption of technology in higher education are an advancement in digital equity, growing roles of staff, and progression in digital fluency.
Progression in digital fluency or the capability to employ digital platforms and tools to make creative plans, communication, problem-solving, and making informed decisions along with waiting for new implementations add to digital literacy. More nuanced skills, like the ability to leverage continually evolving technologies and co-creation, constitute to the experience beyond the primary literacy. But, just keeping up with the literacy to help instructors and students access and evaluate data is not enough to support the demanding needs of a digitally arbitrated community. The plan of action for organizations is to let the entire institution make use of digital platforms and resources.
Digital equity and prominently the access of broadband connectivity to obtain uncensored and unbiased content on the web summons for many issues. Issues such as ability status, age, gender, education, income, native language rise along with regional, national, and cultural dimensions. Access to data alongside freedom of expression and the ability to partake in business, governance, and commerce is also vital in the improvement of digital equity.
As critical allies in the scaling and adoption of digital solutions, the staff needs to be included in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of any learning and teaching initiative. Identifying the engagement strategies and learning outcomes before recognizing the educational tech solutions that can assist educators in the early stages of a planned proposal is the key. Additionally, professional development and training for faculty are also necessary.
The achievement gap, increased demand for instructional design expertise and digital learning experience, and rethinking the practices of learning are some other challenges that organizations face in technology adoption.
