PMX
Delivering Data Centers through a Unified, In-House Approach

PMX

PMX specializes in the full MEP scope for data center projects, from early-stage design through commissioning and long-term maintenance.

Its design-build-maintain model keeps engineering, procurement, construction management, testing & commission and maintenance teams under one roof, eliminating the handoffs that typically slow projects and create gaps between what’s planned and what gets built.

It specializes exclusively in systems that keep data centers running, including but not limited to power distribution, cooling infrastructure, fuel systems, fire protection systems, external infrastructures, building management systems, security and IT systems, which matter more now than they did five years ago. Data centers are evolving faster than they have in decades, driven by AI workloads and hyperscale demand and the MEP systems supporting them need to match that pace.

“When design, engineering and execution sit in the same company, you cut out the fragmentation that slows projects down and drives up risk,” says KokSiang Ho, General Manager. “Each stage informs the next, so infrastructure scales reliably with the client’s growth.”

What sets PMX apart is how it embeds field expertise directly into the design process. Testing & commissioning and maintenance teams are involved from the outset, ensuring systems are designed to be fully testable and serviceable. That cycle tightens the gap between plan and execution, giving the company an operational advantage that traditional consultant-led models can’t match.

Because we control the entire process, we can make on-the-fly design modifications immediately within our control,” says Hatta Anuar, Project Director and Head of PM and Delivery.

When site conditions shift or equipment availability changes, adjustments occur within days rather than weeks. That speed reduces over-design, minimizes procurement lead time and keeps projects moving when other contractors are stalled in coordination meetings.

Each project begins with PMX stepping in during test fits, assessing site viability for grid, water and land and shaping initial master plans. Designers factor in testing, maintenance and operational risk from the start, considering equipment servicing and long-term performance before finalizing the drawings. Traditional consultants design in isolation. PMX folds delivery knowledge back into the design stage, so what gets planned is buildable and maintainable over the facility’s whole lifespan.
“While we offer end-to-end integration, we’re equally accustomed to collaborating with client-appointed consultant teams,” says Lo Dannis, Country Head of Thailand and Head of Client Solutions. In these setups, we act as a supportive delivery partner, bringing practical field insight and value-engineering expertise to complement the consultant’s vision without disrupting existing workflows.”

Long-lead equipment drives project risk, so the team evaluates availability, specification and cost early. They study market constraints, future-proof system choices and check buildability to ensure MEP designs integrate smoothly with building contractors. Data center owners expect rapid delivery, which pushes PMX to optimize design and equipment selection around PUE, sustainability and long-term performance. The team collaborates with manufacturers to monitor cooling technologies and equipment trends that enhance reliability and reduce delivery times.

When design, engineering and execution sit in the same company, you cut out the fragmentation that slows projects down and drives up risk. Each stage informs the next, so infrastructure scales reliably with the client’s growth.

As data centers continue to evolve, speed to market now matters as much as cost efficiency. To meet that demand, PMX now also offers containerized and modular data center solutions: standardized, factory-tested power, cooling and IT blocks that are assembled on-site rather than built from scratch. Because the major systems are built and tested off-site, these AI-ready units deploy and scale far faster than a conventional build, allowing clients to bring capacity online in phases without compromising quality. On-site, design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) methods raise quality, safety and speed. PMX proactively drives digitalization, investing in advanced tools without waiting for client mandates. Digitized workflows and QR-based equipment tracking give us real-time visibility and tighter control over execution.

"That discipline translates into delivery," says Colin Phua, Managing Director. "We've proven our capability through two of Malaysia's earliest hyperscale facilities, totaling 93MW, executed as a two-overlap project, a continuous program. We're currently delivering 253MW of data centers across four projects in Malaysia and one project in Thailand."

“We practice full transparency with our clients and subcontractors, fostering a collaborative environment where challenges are addressed as a team, ensuring projects are delivered on time, to specification and without compromise on quality,” says Arthur Chew, Country Head of Vietnam and Head of Project Development.

PMX is young and powered by a team of over 250 professionals. Senior engineers provide depth in MEP design and delivery, while younger colleagues bring curiosity and a drive to test new tools. Teams discuss ideas across disciplines, trial improvements and refine processes together. That mindset led directly to PMX becoming fully ISO-certified and qualified, driven by a culture that embraces continuous improvement.

Headquartered in Malaysia, PMX drives major data center projects across Southeast Asia. The company has established active operations not only in Malaysia but also Thailand and Vietnam to lead the region's digital infrastructure growth.

Deep Dive

Design-Led Delivery in Data Center Infrastructure Projects

The people who keep mission‑critical infrastructure running are facing pressures that didn’t exist a decade ago, in today’s digital economy. Delivery schedules shrink. Hardware requirements shift mid‑project. Energy‑efficiency expectations rise with every new generation of computing. What used to be a predictable 18‑ to 24‑month build now has to be delivered in a year sometimes less. For the teams responsible, this isn’t just a scheduling challenge. It changes how they design, coordinate and make decisions under pressure. And when design, construction and commissioning are split among different providers, every handover becomes a moment where something can slip: a detail gets lost, a priority shifts, or a site condition doesn’t match what the drawings assumed. People feel those gaps long before they show up in a report. That’s why an integrated delivery model matters. When the same team carries a project from concept through commissioning, design decisions aren’t made in isolation. They’re formed by people who have stood on active sites, solved commissioning issues and maintained systems long after handover. They recognize what works, what doesn’t and what will cause trouble six months down the line. "When design, construction and commissioning work as one connected process, teams can reduce coordination gaps, accelerate delivery and build more resilient data center infrastructure." This practical view has become essential. Hardware cycles are shorter. Cooling demands change quickly. Lead times fluctuate. A design team that hears about these shifts early, directly from manufacturers, can adjust before a change becomes a delay or a cost overrun. It’s the difference between reacting and remaining ahead. Compressed timelines also change how teams think about performance. Cooling, reliability, redundancy and capability aren’t separate conversations anymore. They’re intertwined decisions that affect each other and they have to be resolved quickly. Modular construction and off‑site fabrication help by reducing the work that needs to be done on-site. Digital coordination tools give teams a clearer picture of drawings, materials and installation progress, so conflicts are caught early instead of discovered during testing. Planning now extends well beyond construction. Long‑lead equipment, specialist contractors, commissioning requirements, maintenance access and future upgrades all need to be considered from the start. When teams map these linkages early, clients get a clearer understanding of the compromises between initial investment and long‑term performance. It’s especially important for cooling efficiency, system redundancy and functional resilience areas where small decisions can have big consequences. Keeping design and delivery teams close to active sites makes everything move faster. When designers, procurement specialists and project managers can walk the site, questions don’t sit in inboxes. Decisions don’t wait for long approval chains. Work continues aligned with what the project actually needs, not what was assumed months earlier. PMX was built around this idea. The company delivers mechanical and electrical systems for data centers from design through commissioning, keeping vital responsibilities under one roof. Such structure reduces the coordination gaps that slow projects and complicate delivery. Experience from construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance feeds directly back into design, helping PMX teams spot practical risks before work begins. Client support starts early. PMX works with clients during pre‑development, conducting feasibility studies, site planning, concept design, procurement planning and lifecycle assessments. Close relationships with manufacturers give the design team rapid insight into changes in computing hardware, cooling requirements, equipment availability and delivery schedules. Modular systems and off‑site construction shorten installation timelines. Autodesk Construction Cloud keeps documents current, workflows clear and site coordination consistent. Designers, procurement representatives and project leaders stay close to project sites, so practical concerns move quickly across teams. PMX’s in‑house testing and commissioning specialists confirm that installed systems operate as intended. Its DBO+ model, covering feasibility, design, procurement, delivery, testing, commissioning, maintenance and facilities management, provides clients with a single, connected team throughout the entire project lifecycle. PMX is a young business led by people with deep industry experience. The culture is open, fast and team-oriented. Ideas move easily across teams. New tools get tested. Workflows evolve. And even as the company adapts to changing project needs, its standards for safety, quality and client outcomes stay constant. ...Read more
