A common misconception about cyber security is that it is solely about the technology – the firewalls, anti-virus software, and threat detection systems. However, contrary to popular belief, the skilled cyber security professionals who incessantly defend the network from attacks are just as critical. The chronic shortage of such talented professionals worldwide has been a pain for the CIOs. There is a global talent crunch of one million cyber security professionals, and this number is set to increase to 1.5 million within two years.

Notwithstanding the talent crunch, the efforts of one company that has attracted more than 300 cyber security professionals—and trained and deployed them globally—has caught the attention of business circles. Led by Foo Siang-tse, Quann Singapore is one of the unique Managed Security Services Providers providing integrated cyber and physical security protection with its parent company, Certis CISCO.

Cyber security professionals at Quann hone a wide range of skills and strive to remain abreast of what is known as the ‘Art and Science of being Cyber Secure’.

Quann’s MD, Foo Siang-tse says, “Being exposed to a wide range of industries, across multiple countries, allows Quann cyber security professionals to be well-versed in detecting and mitigating cyber threats, and allows them to design customised protection solution.” Quann professionals are also certified by various security certification entities, including prestigious CISSP and GIAC to handle cyber incidents and intrusions.

Headquartered in Singapore, Quann offers its experience in cyber security and operational technology security. Its consultancy service, Quann Consult, helps organisations to anticipate threats, disrupt attacks, and respond decisively by designing and developing cyber security policies and strengthening risk management, cyber security posture, and regulation compliance.

Cyber security professionals at Quann deal with wide range of skills, and strive to remain abreast of what is known as the ‘Art and Science of being Cyber Secure’

In the cyber world where staff is often the weakest link in security, Quann Empower service bridges the skills and awareness gap by cultivating a security first culture in enterprises and hone critical security knowledge of the in-house security teams. Internal exposure and risk is reduced and defences strengthened by exposing gaps and vulnerabilities through stimulated attacks, which also serves to provide hands-on practice for enterprise in-house cyber teams to be combat-ready in the event of an attack.

Quann’s Protect service seeks out and stops both known and unknown cyber threats before they hit. Quann patented intelligence and analysis tools provide real-time visibility into the networks, while Quann analysts monitor and guard the networks and applications on a 24*7 basis to detect as well as follow through on traffic anomalies. In the event of an attack, the analysts launch countermeasures to contain, mitigate, and remedy the threat.

When an attack on a network is underway, the Quann Rescue provides incident response and forensics service. The root cause of the security breach is determined to swiftly contain and mitigate the threat. Quann Rescue provides pre-emptive incident preparation, data preservation, and in-depth data analysis to enable enterprises to take a proactive approach to security.

The cyber security space is evolving at a rapid pace, and Quann—since its inception in 2000, has managed to stay ahead in the game. Quann plans to continue its focus on attracting, up-skilling, and retaining exceptional cyber security talent. At the end of the day, it may be a cyber war out there but it is not the machine - the “man” who is a flexible and agile operator will continue to be the most prized asset in defending our networks to keep them safe and secure.
